I was on topamax for over a year and during that time I was having problems with bad gag reflexes and throwing up almost everyday from gagging. My 'seasonal' all year round allergies were also SO bad.. I could never breathe through my nose and always felt like I had a constant cold all year round...

I have now been off topamax for a few weeks and I have noticed: 1. I don't throw up anymore... I still do gag sometimes but not nearly as bad as before. I went from throwing up once or twice a day, to now not throwing up at all anymore. And 2. My allergies are soooooooooo much better. I am never stuffed up anymore and can now actually breathe through my nose!

It could very well all be just a coincidence but I"m wondering if maybe my throwing up and constant being stuffed up was related to being on topamax? I'd be curious to find out if that was the case...

Okay. I looked it up. 18% have head colds. 14% have nausea. Not allergies really, but certainly side effects.

That stinks, Amanda, but I am glad those side effects are going away. I hate to barf, so that would have driven me crazy.

I took Topamax for a month and it was a miracle drug for me, unfortunately, its really expensive and I don't have insurance so I had to quit. Since then I have been trying (so far futilely) to find a different anti-psychotic that works for me.

Hi Amanda. I was on Topamax for almost a year and had the same gag reflex thing going on. I don't think it is an allergy though. I did'nt go away completely but it did get a little better. Oh and perpetuallysad, the maker of Topamax covers that prescription. And also see if it is on the $4 list at Walmart or Walgreens.

Topamax went generic recently. It's not the cheapest drug out there, but when I just checked on Costco.com and drugstore.com, the generic was about 1/10 the price of brand!
