Just wondering if anyone has had success with Seroquel.
My psych prescribed me 50mg at bedtime as a mood stabilizer.
He said I may become sedated with it but it doesn't happen to everyone. My mood has been all over the place lately.
I certainly don't want to become sedated . Guess I'll have to wait and see.

i have taken that before it helps you sleep. It gave me a sort of hangover feeling the next day. High doses can cause weight gain. You are on a small dose. If you are concerned just cut the tablet in half and take half to begin with.
Thanks for this!

I take 1000mg of Seroquel every night and was told it would make me sleepy, they were wrong, Seroquel doesn't make me sleepy at all.... overall it is a very good drug, it helps a lot but takes a while to get the full effect.

Thanks to being med resistent and having med allergies and just a stubborn case of bipolar I'd reached the point of having only 3 meds I hadn't tried and then having to wait until something new came along. I'd been very reluctant to try seroquel for a few reasons, but when it was the only thing left (the other 2 meds being clearly more harmful) I went on it. I went on incredibly slowly and in combination with a lot of other meds ( very high dose Depakote, lithium, an antidepressant, etc) and over several months went to a high dose. I got better for the first time in 10 years that year, and then when Seroquel XR came out I was one of the first people on it. That med gave me the first stability I've had really in my life until recently when I have had to change antidepressants thanks to some issues with what I'd been on. And even then it kept things from being worse than they could have been.

For me it's my miracle.

Seroquel works great except it causes weight gain and an increase in cholesterol.

Lower doses of seroquel (25-100mg) are often for its sedative effect. The higher the dose, the less the sedative effect (weird huh?). 50mg is a very low dose for use as a mood stabilizer.

It works well for some and not for others. I was one of the "nots". My doctor kept increasing my dose every two weeks and after six weeks total on Seroquel I was sedated all right. I couldn't walk upright and I refused to continue taking it and called and said, nope, try something else. But everybody is different. I wouldn't want to take it and have to drive eight hours later though until you know how if affects you.

Seroquel is the strangest, funniest drug but I have been on it for over 7 years and for me, it just seems to work with mood, sleep and anxiety but EVERYone is different. It is a very powerful drug, If I take a litlte too much I can't drive and every night it seems like I need a different dozage. I say....take the smallest does as you can. The way it works, studies show that it helps sleep in smaller doeses. I take it for sleep. Seoquel XR is a slow release tablet, a bit more expensive but if you have bipolar with anxiety issues, seroquel XR stays in your system longer so helps you obtain a more mellow mood. It affects everyone differently. makes me sleep too long and I can't wake up. WHy have I taken it for over 7 years daily.........this is just MY opinion. As with ALL drugs, everyone responds differently.
