I started seeing a new pdoc this week. He seems ok. But he admits he's more of a researcher than a clinician. It shows.

He renewed all of my meds. He intended & I expected him to write one month's worth with 2 repeats. The way he wrote it was just X3 - so the pharmacy gave me a 3 month supply. On the plus side, this saves me $70 over the course of 2 months in dispensing fees I don't have to pay.

But he really messed up my clonazapam order. I was taking 1 mg 3 times a day, and 2 mg at night. He just wrote 5 mg. So when I was in picking up my very large bottles of other prescription meds, the pharmacist asked what was up with the clonazapam, he was going to give me 2 2.5 mg tablets daily, and I said no I want to stay with the 1 mg 3 X daily, and the 2mg at night. So now they have to call the Dr. back to confirm the dosages with him. Fortunately I'm not quite out yet. But that seems like a fairly basic thing for a Dr. to know.

When I asked my new pdoc to refill my medications he had no idea what the dosing was. Apparently, they don't learn about the "weird" drugs in residency training.

If he continues to do things you believe are errors, it might be worth going elsewhere. But maybe he is just getting back into the swing of prescribing again, and will be more on top of things the next time you see him. It's a good thing you caught the error. Some people might not pay as close of attention and not realize they were taking 5 mg klonopin pills since they were used to getting a prescription for 1 mg pills. I'm glad you caught this!
