I am happy you feel good today, it usually takes about 2 weeks for prozac, like many other meds to work fully, and sometimes at that point dosage adjusments might be made, so do not dismay if you feel differently over the next days, keep faith.
I do know in some cases, just by addressing and coming to accept having a disorder can have a positive effect.
Not always but often this happens, and personally I feel it is good, we get to pinpoint stuff and with therapy and/or meds we can start moving forward, learning healthy coping techniques, while also opening up doors to options we have
I am wishing you lots of luck with your progress.

Take care,
DE

Remember that you have fluctuating hormones right now, Miss A. That is more likely the cause of feeling great one day and terrible the next. Darkeyes made a terrific and important point about how therapy is really the best way to get you on the road to improvement. I seriously hope you're going to therapy in addition to taking meds.

Miss A I know that you have a good head on your shoulders and that you are getting help that you need to be terrificly awsome adult later in life. You see things more clearly and in the long run than others your age and older. Have fun in your life.

I found the "if" as Miss needs to stay alive so she can become that terrific adult!

Sometimes just the feeling of success of finding someone to help, prescribe and try a medicine, can make one somewhat euphoric. Also, ppl who are quite sensitive can realize changes in their system even with the first pill. Did you tell us what you are taking, Miss? I missed it if you did. TC woah.....

Miss A,

That is just it's scientific name. You're probably on the generic form of Prozac.

The name Prozac is called the trade name of the drug. Sometimes called the brand. It gets the little ® symbol, as a registered trade mark.

The name fluoxetine is the generic name for the same drug. Nobody other than the original patent holder/registrant can use the name Prozac. But once the patent expires, other companies can market it, using the generic name fluoxetine.

Chemists call the same drug (±)-N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[(a,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-oxy]propylamine hydrochloride, so you can see why selecting a shorter name (the generic name fluoxetine) is useful. If you spend a moment looking at that chemical name I just sprawled out, you can actually see some of the phonetic elements of the name fluoxetine. There's 'flu' and 'ox(y)' and 'ine' in that big name. Sometimes the generic name is just short-hand for the longer chemical name.
