hi, i'm wondering if klonopin or other anxiety medications are the type that the longer you take them, the higher dosage you need? like will i need to take more pills later for it to continue to work? or should a steady dosage work well? because this is an as-needed drug, not an every-day drug like most anti-depressants

Hm, I haven't taken that, but I wanted you to know that you weren't being ignored. In general, (for me at least) I do tend to sort of build up a tolerance and so far I've always had to increase the dosages of the meds I take. So, for instance, I started on Wellbutrin about 2 years ago, I'm now up to 200mg 2x a day, but it was a gradual increase. Same thing for xanax, at first I had .5 mg for "as needed" but now my pdoc has me take it 3 times a day and then .5 mg as needed if things get worse for me.

You can definitely build up a tolerance to all of the benzo's including Klonopin. That's why a lot of Dr.'s won't prescribe them long term. It's also part of why the benzos are all addictive. But if you stick with taking really only as needed, and don't start taking it habitually you should be ok.

If you are only taking something on an as needed basis, then your body is not going to get acclimated to a regular dosage since you are not taking a regular dosage. I wouldn't worry about it.
