Hello!
I'm currently taking 5mg of Abilify & I am considering coming off of it due to some side effects that I've been noticing. I've heard that tapering from Abilify is HARD. At a lower dose it wasn't too bad, but now, on 5mg, I'm so anxious that I can't even leave my house. I think the anxiety is due to the Abilify. Does anybody have any tips on how to taper effectively and safely from this drug? I don't want to become Abilify's prisoner, as some would say. And yes, I will be speaking to my doctor about this. |

I was on 5 mg of Abilify also and it made me CRAZY!! My anxiety was so high on it. I had STRONG impulses to punch anyone who came to close to me or touch me. I wasn't mad or anything and it wasn't something I wanted to do, it was just strange impulses and flashes of me lashing out at people. I felt like I wasn't in control and I felt awful about it. I'm not a violent person either. I felt 5150!! I did some research on it and found it was the second highest psychotropic to cause violent impulses among mental patients. The first was cymbalta I believe. I decided the impulses were from Abilify so I threw them away. I literally locked myself in my home for fear that I would hurt somebody. I felt crazy. I even had to put my dog in another room. Awful!!!!! As for tapering, I would break the pill in half and take 2.5 mg for two weeks, then 2.5 every other day for 1-2 weeks. This is what I would do. I only took Abilify for a little over two weeks so it was no problem for me. Good luck. Oh, and I'm not a Dr. Just giving a suggestion.
