My pdoc is trying different meds all the time and is confusing me. I dont wanna be on any bipolar meds anymore. I wanna learn to deal with things so i dont swing from high to low there has to be a natural alternative I am not going on tegretol or lithium and i want to be off of valpro!! i hate all of them. valpro doesnt work anyway so the others arent going to |

I felt exactly as you described and told my Pdoc I was determined to be strong enough to handle my bipolar without meds. His response: you are a strong person but do you think you would not need meds for your hypertension or for your hypothroidism because you are strong willed? Same thing with mental illness.
I don't like being bipolar but I need the meds to keep my moods stable. ![]()

The meds will really help. Not everything can be done on our own. We can work on it, but the meds are much more efficient at it. And just because one med doesn't work does not mean the other won't. Quite the opposite actually.

Hi, many times in psychiatric medication the pdoc just has to start you out on a med and then wait and see if they are going to work and if you will respond to them, it seems like a scientific experiment I know I have been there, but if you do not take the meds as prescribed the pdoc will have no idea what to do in regards to your mood and what to take away or to add to your regimin so I would suggest just trying the meds and if they are not working tell the pdoc and ask for an adjustment. Best wishes, I am not trying to sound harsh or hurt any feelings I just am and have been through all what you are going through for over 15 years now.
Peace and Best Wishes- kk101

i didnt take the meds the pdoc gave me because she was dishonest in prescribing it to me telling me it was a low dosage but i found out that its not and i think that pdoc really needs to learn that im not dumb or a person who is naive and follows blindly.
I have a right to say no i dont want strong meds. I have the strength to get through all of this stuff. I am probably not even bipolar.. how can she dx me, when she has only known me for 6 months. |

Sounds like you are not very comfortable with your pdoc and if your not comfortable and believe she is not the one for you and do not trust her perhaps you would be better off to find a new pdoc who you feel more comfortable with if it is possible. I have found that trust and feeling violated is reason to locate another professional who you can feel is working WITH you and not as you have stated you feel about your pdoc. Maybe this is bad advise, but perhaps not. Just an idea. Take Care, kk101

Like I said on a different thread, 400mg of tegretol is not a high dose at all. She didn't lie to you. You have to take the meds to see if they will make a difference, otherwise you're really tying your pdoc's hands.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe you can try to tell her some of these things. That you feel like you are being experimented on and you arent completely believing you are bipolar. Have you discussed it with your T?
I have to trust my PNP or I wouldnt take anything she presecribes! She really does have my life in her hands. |
