If I am not mistaking Lexapro is an offshoot of Celexa right?
anti-depressants today are more abundant in regard to variety and how they work. It sometimes takes trying them, working with your pdoc and evaluating what one(s) are best for you.
You do need to give most of them 2-4 weeks before noticing any changes either beneficial or not, then things can be adjusted or changed.
Hang in there, it will happen, it just takes patience.
I wish you lots of luck with this, I've been through this and more, so I can relate quite well

Take care,

don't be afraid, at a first session it is going to the appt. that actually is more scarier than actually sitting and talking with the therapist, my first one I got up to the door handed the guy a check and drove home crying, he tried to get me to stay and talk but I was so nervous, he called me at my home we talked and then re-scheduled after that it was like visiting a friend once or even twice a week, my only mistake was that I didn't keep in mind his job was not to be a friend so I had to hear the ethical codes /boundary speech, wish I wish at client's first visits they would hand you a printout exclaiming the "dos and dont's" of client/therapist relationships, I could of prevented myself from making an *** of myself, but I lived and learned
Don't be afraid. . . go for it

I do not mind at all, I would be glad to share what I know and have actually been through with different meds. and their side effects and none side effects. Some are so minimal and gradually go away that you'll find they are so miniscule compared to dealing with the actual condition that has caused you to have a need for them.
It really isn't that bad at all
You can PM me anytime

Have been on Lexapro for a couple of months.Started at a half dose for a week, now at 10mg. At first maybe a slight headache when I first woke up in the morning. Maybe a slightly decreased appetite. I went off alcohol at the same time - so who knows. I am really happy with it now. Have never been on an SSRI before.

I've been on 20 mg of Lexapro for a few months now. It really helps me...yet I do have trouble sleeping. Hmm. I'm going to the doctors Monday so maybe she'll be able to help me with that. Lexapro seems to have little side effects on me though...when I first started taking it I had an increase in appetite, but that went away after a while. Good luck!

My Psychiatrist just prescribed me Lexapro (10 mg. tabs) a little over a week ago, but I haven't taken it yet. I have been on Wellbutrin, but I am no longer taking it, however, I have intense anxiety about taking new medications. Especially at the moment because I am also taking Vicodin (between 20-30 mgs. a day, or 6 5/500 tabs in three doses of two), for post-surgical pain control. ><

So, I called my Psychiatrist today, and told her of my anxiety, and asked about interactions. She told me it was safe to take the Lexapro with the Vicodin. I am wondering if anyone else had taken Vicodin with Lexapro, and, if so, were there any notable interactions?

I would appreciate any input. Thanks beforehand.

Take care.

I took my first dose of Lexapro this morning, despite my fear. And, so far, so good. No horrible side-effects, or interactions yet. Sometimes I realize my fears are completely silly...hopefully, after taking the medication for a few more days, I won't dread swallowing it down every morning. Heh. ^^

Take care all.

Thanks, Mary Alice. ^^

(((((Mary Alice)))))

Taking the Lexapro today was definitely easier than yesterday - but, I believe it has given me the side-effect of insomnia! And, really bad insomnia at that (much worse than my regular insomnia).

I am going to see the Urgent Care doc about it today though - I can't afford to lose anymore sleep than I already do - perhaps the clinic can help me until I can talk to my Psychiatrist on Monday. ^^

Take care. ^^

I also had the side effect of insomnia. Switching my dose to early morning hours took away the problem and breaking up the pill into halves and taking them 2 hours apart took care of the nausea.

Hope this helps you somehow.

Hi, Willow. ^^

I already take my Lexapro in the morning. Doh. I tend to be sensitive to SSRI's though, and have insomnia without them. It seems the Lexapro just exacerbates the problem. The clinic doc (I went today instead of yesterday) gave me Trazadone to help with the insomnia - hopefully it will work!

(((((Willow)))))

Thank you for the advice!

Take care.

Well... it was the obvious... but it never hurts to mention stuff like that, just in case...

Hope the Traz(whatever) helps you get into a healthy sleep pattern.

I agree - it was a good piece of advice. It's really too bad that I am so sensitive to SSRI's. *sigh*

And, the Trazodone didn't do much for my sleeping, but I am going to try it again tonight. Maybe it will work better the second use of it. My Psychiatrist won't be in until tomorrow (her secretary informed me that she was out today), but I left a message for her anyway - if for nothing else, to let her know I was prescribed the Trazodone.

Thanks for all the advice. ^^

(((((((Willow)))))))

Take care. ^^

Hi Moonsilk,
I haven't been here in awhile. How are your meds working now? I adjusted fully to lexapro and dont' need anything else. The only side effect is that it makes me sleep more than I used to. I can live with that!!!! I have a tendency to be wound toooo tightttttt!

Hi Willow... ^^

Turns out neither of the meds worked for me (Lexapro and Trazodone) - I am very susceptible to SSRI's, and they generally do not agree with me, so now I am on a course of Wellbutrin (which I was on originally), 150 mgs. two times a day, and Ativan, 1 mg. four times a day. I find I don't need to take the Ativan that many times in a day, but that's what's on the bottle. I am still waiting to see if the Wellbutrin kicks back in...but the Ativan has been a life saver in regards to the panic, simple phobias and agoraphobia...I feel as if I can halfway function now. ^^

Anyway, thank you so much for your concern, and I am so happy the Lexapro is working for you! Yay!
