I have been on 12.5 of venlafaxine (effexor) for about a week and today took 25 mg

My anxiety is sky high so my doc wants me to stop taking it tomorrow. I am also stopping propranolol tomorrow since it does not seem to be helping either.

Is this safe to just stop these like that?

thanks.

I would think that it's alright to do so seeing that you've only been taking it for a week. But you may experience some withdrawal. I am a bit surprised that your doctor hasn't prescribed a different medication to take instead. When I was having problems w/ Effexor and needed to go off my doctor prescribed Prozac to take in it's place. To help with any withdrawl symptoms and to keep my depression/anxiety from getting out of hand. I had an appointment with her a few days later.

Do you have an appointment scheduled to see your doctor?

I see her tomorrow.

I have tried Prozac and many others but they all seem to make me worse so she is probably not wanting to put me on those.

I have xanax and ativan though.

I'm having a hard time w/ the Prozac myself. It's been I think 9 months since I've been seeing my pdoc. We are still trying to find the magic combo that works for me. I have a feeling it will be awhile longer before we find the perfect mix. Frustrating.

Have you tried Wellbutrin?

Yes, I've tried prozac and wellbutrin and they both made me have more anxiety and other side effects but I am more sensitive than most.

Unfortunately, my doc is not sure if it is just me causing these things because I am afraid of meds or if it is the med itself so she is keeping me on the 25 mg of effexor

I have read some horror stories about it

I just wish I could be well without meds

I don't need the extra problems they cause.

ativan helps me a lot but it is no good for long term
