Has anyone ever purchased birth control pills in Mexico? I've heard that people do it - that they are over the counter there and you can bring back a 3 month supply. I'm going to be near the border in a few days and thought I might look into it, but I want to know if the brands are the same as here. I don't want them so badly that I'll buy something that says El Birtho Controllo. LOL!!!
And because I know someone will ask why I don't just get them here, I'll go ahead and address it. Frankly, you couldn't pay me enough money to go to "that" doctor. Can't do it. Uh uh! I hope it's ok to post this here and not on the drug questions board. It just didn't seem to fit there because I'm not asking about a mental health related drug. |

Nope never baught any there or heard of them being available there but have heard of other meds being available at lot cheeper price. Don't know if they would be labled in english or what? don't know. Maybe someone here will be able to help you out.

Please be careful! I don't know about meds from Mexico. Can you get in trouble for bringing them across the border? Many of them are the same, and you can usually get them from a general practicioner, you don't need to go to "that" Dr.

A lot of the drug names are the same. My experience is you will need to speak pretty good spanish. I have never tried to buy birth control, but have had to buy other prescriptions while in Mexico. You may want to just buy online or go to your GP. Mexico is a Catholic country; I am not sure that they wouldn't frown upon you for buying it.

 (kinda)To purchase meds online you have to fax many of the online pharmacies a valid prescription, even the ones in Canada (been there, done that LOL). Like I said, you can bring a 3 month supply back - as long as it's not a controlled substance here and it's for your own personal use. And being a prescription drug does not automatically make something a controlled substance.
Anyway, I was asking if anyone had purchased them and what they knew. I wasn't trying to start a debate over the legality of it. I've been to the FDA and customs websites to check that out already. |

As for those of you who suggest I just go to my GP, where are you all finding GPs who will prescribe them without an exam?

I don't think anyone meant to offend you. I don't know of a single GP that will prescribe BCP without an exam. They do an exam to rule certain things out, and get a feel for your family history so they KNOW they are prescribing the correct birth control for you, if it's even right for you. If you can get them in Mexico, then go for it. I wish you well and hope you don't put your health at serious risk. In my county you can go to Planned Parenthood and they will give you BCP for anywhere from 6 months to a year without an exam.
Be safe. Know your side effects and your risk factors before taking them. As far as the Mexico being Catholic comment, I think they meant that they might not be as readily available as in a country whose majority is not Catholic. But who knows...lol I won't put words in other people's mouth. I know how you feel about the exam, but I am beginning to accept the "sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do" outlook. Oh...and my meds are made by Ortho...you might look for something with that. No one is judging you, honestly, I've been amazed how many women I have met just recently who are on "the pill" for other reasons. Whatever you decide,

I am sorry for my post earlier. it didn't come out the way I meant it too; off morning what can I say. I did mean that it may not be as readily available. I spent some months "traveling" around mexico during an "off" period. I had a really hard time even buying condoms in rural Mexico. I didn't mean to offend you; I just didn't use the right words. My GP does prescribe me the pill without an exam. I have extreme anxiety/ptsd issues about getting that kind of exam. He knows that, and has been kind to me about it. Maybe if you explain your issues to your GP he can give you some suggestions. I know there are some online sites that don't require a doctors prescription as well. Do you live close to the Mexico border? If this is an option for you go for it. I wasn't really trying to sway you one way or another. I just thought there may be an easier option. __________________
