Within two weeks of having a dose increase of risperidone I started having some symptoms of increased prolactin levels (minor lactation and decreased libido). This higher dose seems to be helping with my symptoms, so I'm not really keen on the idea of having my dose lowered or stopping the medication altogether.

A question for anyone with this side effect. Did you doctor stop the medication, or lower your dose because of it?

I'll never forget the first time the lactation happenned for me. I'd been on a very low dose of Risperidone for a couple of weeks, and I was at a really intense high profile conference in NY. Everyone there was an overacheiver and we were all competing to be team leaders of our respective groups. Then I realized that one of the guys was staring at my chest. I was getting ready to hell at him, then looked down and saw two wet spots. I was mortified.

The good news is, as that I've been on it a while now, the lactation has diminished greatly - my body seems to have adjusted to the med, and I'm on a much higher dose than I was when it happenned. Now I just get some minor leakage if my breasts are squeezed really hard.

As for the loss of libido - no cure for that, unless it goes away with time.

Good luck with it.

I would talk to your doctor, make sure you don't have any of the other problems that can permanently damage your health?

Thanks for sharing splitimage and thank you for the link Perna. I see my doctor on the 8th, I was just trying to ease my worry about it.

I cannot remember what I was taking, but I had some serious lactation and an intense desire to be pregnant when I was taking whatever it was... tegretol? Dang, I cannot remember. When I quit taking it, all the symptoms went away. It was very bizarre.

I had this problem too, the whole time I was taking it [only a few months] but I went off it for other reasons.
