My wife is 20 with adult ADHD and started taking 30mg Vyvanse on May 20th of this year. But the cons outweigh the pros of this drug that is simply that, a drug. Its an amino acid based pure amphetamine; AKA speed with an amino acid.
We flushed all but a few pills due to her severe side effects; some are listed below. We are going to ween her off the medicine, her doctor is not helping and we called the doctor and made an appointment that they turned around and cancelled. There reasoning for this, even after she has had three appointments already, is that they "forgot" she owed another doctor in the same office 79 dollars from three years ago!!! Yet, they are aware that we made the appointment for tomorrow to discuss her severe manic reactions she has both at night when the medicine starts to wear off, and in the morning before she takes the medicine. The doctors office did this to us even after becoming an established patient with the office again......they cancelled the appointment despite the life threatening issues she is having. So here is one for everyone, should we sue the doctor for malpractice? She is already an established patient again, and he was prescribing a Class 2 drug which has GREAT potential for becoming habit forming. Now suddenly they wont see her, and its because they just "forgot" she owed another doctor 80 bucks!!! This medicine should be pulled for now, and studied more. I have witnessed its severe side effects first hand. Sure there are pros, but the cons can be life altering for people who have families. Anger issues, hallucinations, prone to snap at people, violence, hysteria, blackouts, pathologially lying, etc. More awareness needs to be spread about this new "wonder drug" before it ruins anymore lives of families who have a loved one prescribed on it. |

I am sorry she is having such bad reactions to this medicine. A doctor is not allowed to deny you access if you are an established patient, no matter how much you owe. At least that's the way it is here in MS. Its called patient abandonment, I think. I don't know if you can sue, but you should definitely talk to them about getting her seen immediately.
Also, just as an aside, everyone reacts differently to meds. Some people have good experiences when taking amphetamines for ADHD.
