Hi, I'm new here so if this isn't done right, please forgive me. I would like to know if anyone knows why after I have taken any psychotropic drug( except for ativan) I have a reaction about three days into taking them. My heart races and my eyes dialate and I get a tingling feeling in my face. I always quit them then. The drugs I was taking was Tofranil and it also happened with Zoloft and Prozac. It never happened with Stelazine or any of those meds. I also had an allergic reaction when taking Prozac and Zoloft, I broke out in allergic dermatitis and was so paranoid I couldn't get off my own porch. I took Prozac for about 2 months. The reaction I'm talking about though is the first one because I really need something but am afraid to try any new drugs. If anyone knows why this happens to me please let me know.

K - For what condition are you taking the psychotropics? I do see a trend here, but I do need a little more info, such as what has not worked and how recently have you tried that med.
It does sound that you are hypersensitive to serotonin, but more on that later. - Cam |

I was taking them for depression which later turned into psychotic depression. I haven't taken any for a long time but I now feel my depression returning and think I need something before I end up with psychotic depression again. Thanks for replying.

K - Have you tried any of the newer agents like Risperdal™ (risperidone), Zyprexa™ (olanzapine), etc.? These atypical antipsychotics seem to have a built-in antidepressant function, even at low doses. It might be worth mentioning to the doc.

No I haven't tried them but am kind of anxious about trying new drugs. All my life I have had a lot of allergic reactions to different medicines. One Psychiatrist told me I was that 1 in 10,000 people that seem to have side effects. IAt that time I had a reaction to a generic but not the brand name of the same drug. I heard Resperidal causes diabeties. I was wondering about herbal remedies and if they contain anything harmful? I thank you so much for telling me what was wrong; it was hard to find anything about the reaction without knowing what to call it.
