Hey everyone,

Due to negative side effects of ECT treatments, my pdoc and I have decided to stop them for now, and put me on lithium instead.

I'd just like to know what your experiences with lithium have been. What side effects did you have? Did this med work for you? What did it help you with?

Thanks for reading & responding!

Hi melissa.recovering; I hope lithium works for you. I was on it for 2 and a half years. For me I prefer lamictal, but I suffer most often from depression (I'm on an anti-d as well). When I was first put on it I had really bad hand tremors. My p-doc put me on a med to take away that side effect (I can't remember the name it might have been propanol??) I found I was able to stay off the propanol, but I needed to stay hydrated (I have always drank a lot of water and drank even more when on lithium).

i was already taking lamictal, and when my pdoc added lithium to my meds, i felt the best i could remember. honestly. and not in a hypomanic/manic way. just a stable, amazing way. i would have loved to have been able to stay on the lithium - unfortunately, i developed a rash from it after about a month, although it took three more months to figure out it was from that med. i don't think this is a very common reaction, but i'm not sure.

sorry to hear you have to stop the ECT, but perhaps the lithium will work great for you instead

I've been on Lithium for a few years and at first I had stomach pains but they didn't last. My hands shake all the time but it's worth it -. It has helped with manic episodes. I hope it helps you!

Lithium is great for my mood stability. I do have a severe tremor which requires extended release propranolol to control. I have not gained weight. I think I have some hypothyroidism as well.

Extended release lithium can help with GI side effects too. I think Lithium is worth trying.
