my doctor suggested this today...i agreed right away coz i cant make myself take any med after the first 2/3 days ..but as soon as i agreed he said okay lets try one more (oral) antipsychotic and then we'll see...this was the first time id heard about injectable antipsychotics that u need once a week. was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with these ? Are they known to affect a person any differently from the oral form ?

The thought of being injected with enough medication at once to last days or even weeks just leaves me feeling unsettled. I don't think I could ever agree to such a thing.

A injection of meds would help me tons, can you get a injection of only specific antipyscotics? I heard just clozaril and risparidol. I dont want to take either =] Are there other meds they can inject you with?

thanks everyone for the responses,
i got the prescription etc but like someone posted above the loss of control that comes with having enough meds in ur body to last several days leaves me feeling unsettled too...i did agree but now im changing my mind. trouble is, i change my mind so often i usually end up taking a drug 2 days then when its taken the edge off i start thinking i dont need this stuff, and going without for 4-10 days, then (when things start getting real bad) taking it again for 2 days, then stopping it...ive been doing this for years ..thats why i was wondering if i should give the injectables a shot, that way i dont get to 'choose' - and maybe thats what i need? just v.afraid of unwanted side effects (especially increased appetite), and not being in control. i was prescribed flupenthixol. havent tried it yet, dont know if i will. maybe i will. i dont know.

it takes awhile for the medication levels in your blood stream to level out so please do not stop taking your medication just because you feel better.
