I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a good source for info on lactation and medication, specifically for bipolar meds, mood stabilizers and atypical anti-psychotics.

I am currently breastfeeding. I went off my meds before getting pregnant and then pregnancy was a happy surprise.

My pregnancy went well, I stayed in contact with my pdoc and continued with therapy. I am feeling the need to possibly medicate again as I am having trouble with mixed episodes. My pdoc is great, she encourages breastfeeding and/but is cautious about prescribing most mood stabilizers that would benefit me or antipsychotics.

unfortunately, lamictal is out of the question for me, I guess that one is safe but I got a rash when i tried it before.

sorry for rambling...

Farmergirl is right, that site is great. Dr Hale's book will explain with research references for your Pdoc. Seroquel has much much less than 1 percent of a dose transferred to an infant even in an worst case scenario (where infant would only feed at peak levels, which would never really happen).

Dr Hale's site also has a phone number available M-F. Most people do NOT have to quit breastfeeding. Even working in the neonatal ICU, the only mom that had to quit breastfeeding in the last year had a heart attack and needed very toxic meds to survive.

Good luck and I support you no matter what you choose to do!
