Does anyone know of a prescription assistance program that will let you in if you have health insurance?
I have health insurance but it's a crappy high-deductible plan where I pay the first $2,500 out of my own pretty pocket. So I'm paying full-price for medications now, not a copay. One of them was $200, another $100. And we're switching up my meds right now so this could get downright expensive. All those programs like PPARx ask if you have health insurance and then say "sorry, we can't help you." As if insurance actually pays for something.

I let my doctor know when my insurance changed from real insurance to one of the pretend (high deductible) insurances. I asked him to change my medications to ones that are 'good enough' and available for $4 at Walmart. He opened a drawer and pulled out the Walmart list of $4 Rx's and changed all of mine.
Prescription medication often changes in a very slight way, so the formula can be renamed and called 'new'. It then replaces a medication that was good enough right up until the 'new' one came along. So, that's what I asked for... the 'good enough' Rx. Target, Walgreen, and many other pharmacies now have $4 Rx programs and it doesn't matter if you have insurance or not. |

I have this problem too, except my deductible $2200...
I found out that it you use some kind of an assistance for medication the insurance will not count it towards your deductible. |

Just an fyi that my $4 Walmart Rx amount that I pay is applied to my huge insurance deductible. It doesn't make a dent, but still...

Ouch. That's stinks about the deductible. In my plan, scripts don't have to apply to the deductible. They are paid for straight away, except the large copays, that is.
Ask your pdoc about assistance. There are some programs out there, but not many that I have found worth using. You may find something though. |
