Does anyone here have TD? I am tapering off zyprexa and have lately started licking my lips a lot. I am paranoid about getting TD! I hate this drug!

I am down to 3.1mg and will be off soon.

From what little I know, I know that the risk of TD from Zyprexa is very low, lower than Risperdal (what I'm taking.)

How long did you take the Zyprexa? Some people get extrapyrimidal syndromes on it, I think mostly it is stiffness around the mouth area sometimes interfering with speech. EPS goes away when you stop the drug.

With the atypicals I think most TD-like symptoms go away once you stop the med.

Ask your doctor about it.

I recently got twitches, but my p-doc didn't think it was much of a big deal. He even increased my dose to 0.75mg.

Hi,

If you are concerned of TD, Zyprexia as I have been told is supposed to be uniquie in being the only neuroleptic or psycotrophic drug claiming to NOT cause TD.

I have symptoms of TD mostly rigid muscles in my upper torso which are the result of another Neurological disorder yet may mask TD.

I am currnently on Risperdal having low risk I am told in comparison to some of the meds I have taken back in the day...Thorazine, Halodal, Prolixin..and the other old neuroleptic medications. Although never 'officially' diagnosed, I am on an anti-parkinson's drug called Artane to help with the side effects or possible side effects. Other medication brands to help with Parkinson's like symptoms are Cogentin and Kemadrin.

I am not a professional only have been on psych meds now for about 12-years. I wish you the best in your treatment and hope all goes well with the reduction or discontinuation of the Zyprexia.

I had tardive dyskinesia for about 6 months while on Geodon and again when switched to Seroquel (treated for PTSD). I've been med-free for a year now and still have akathisia symptoms (worst is while standing I rock back and forth, very distressing in social groups).

Since you are experiencing extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) from one drug, it's mostly likely you'll continue experiencing similiar symptoms while taking any drug that has a risk for EPS.

I have been on zyprexa almost a year and have been tapering that whole time. I think I am feeling that stiffness around the mouth area--the muscles around my mouth feel tight.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, they can claim that, but I met a woman through a forum like this one who says she got TD from zyprexa.

Thanks! I can't wait to get off this stuff. These antipsychotics are dangerous business.
