Hi, I am not on that combo, but I would be interested in knowing how you do on it. I currently take Abilify, Wellbutrin, Prozac, Topamax, and Lamictal. I am having a very hard time with depression right now as well as being tired all the time. Last week my pdoc had mentioned the possibiltity of putting me on either Ritalin or Adderall to help with that. She said to wait until next visit. I can't wait. I am thinking it will help. I'm curious to know how the Ritalin affects you.
As far as the Abilify and Wellbutrin, they both work great for me. Especially the Abilify.

Hi girl~

I take 450 mg of Wellbutrin, 10 mg of Abilify and 20 mg of Ritalin<--three times per day and 12.5 mg of Ambien at night

I just started Methylphenidate a week ago which is the generic of Ritalin. It doesn't do a thing for me! No "jittery feeling", no real appetite suppressant and it doesn't make my concentration THAT much better; maybe a little more reading comprehension and less impulsive while shopping. No side effects whatsoever. My sleep is okay, probably because I take the Ambien. The only thing I notice is that I wake up more often during the night but am able to go back to sleep.

I wanted to try Adderall because I am a student (50 yrs old) and am having trouble focusing, getting organized and paying attention in class. My psych wanted to try Ritalin, though. She started me off on 5 mg twice a day but it felt like I had taken a sugar pill.....nothing. So I titrated myself up to 20 mg twice a day and it only helps a little. It wears off so quickly that I have to take 20 mg more at about 4 pm.

I'm SO surprised that I don't get jittery or "speedy". I get more of these effects when I drink a double espresso! I wonder if it is the fact that I am taking a generic? I've read on other forums that the "real" Ritalin works better. I should be talking with my doc today and I am going to ask her to write a new rx and write DAW (dispense as written) on the script so I can get Ritalin instead of the generic: methylphenidate...because taking 12 pills a day seems ridiculous!

I wish she would just try Adderall. Maybe after a few weeks or months taking Ritalin with minimal effect she will feel more comfortable prescribing it.

Anyway...that's my 2 cents worth on the combo you asked about. The Wellbutrin and Abilify combo are the best I've ever had for my depression. Nothing really seemed to work before. How much Ritalin a day do you take and what effects does it provide? (Good or Bad)

Hi! Right now I take 20mg of the Ritalin(the generic) in the am. It does tend to wear off about 6 hours later but I am still only on the one dose. I don't seem to have any side effects. It just gives me a little pick me up for those few hours. As for the wellbutrin, I take 350 mg daily and 10mg of the abilify. I have to agree this combo works well.

Thanks for your response. I'll be interested to see what your doctor says about generic and the real ritalin.

Hi, thanks fot the info. I've been on 5 mg of Ritalin (generic) for 16 days now and I don't feel a thing at all! It's a very small dose taken only once a day so that could be why. Maybe my pdoc will increase it when I see her again! Oh, I took 10mg one day to see if that would make a difference and it didn't.

Hi there,

Doc changed me to Adderall 20 mg 2x day rather than the Ritalin. I forgot to ask her about generic info, though. (Me and my memory!) I'll see her next week and will definitely ask her then. I'll post what she says.
Take care.

Thanks for checking on that. If you don't mind me asking why the change to Adderall?

Hi there!
Thank you for this thread.....I was just going to start a new thread asking about Wellbutrin and Abilify, but I saw this and I like what I'm reading.

I'm not taking Ritalin....but I have been taking Wellbutrin 350 1 x/day for the past 10 years! My psych doc suggested upping my dose to 450mg (the maximum according to her) and also thinks we should try the Abilify as well.
I'm up for this, especially after reading what people are saying about it here.

So, are there any negative side effects from adding the Abilify?

Thank you all,
Fading

Hi! I have not had any side effects from taking Abilify. I think it's an individual thing. I have read that some people taking it have stopped because of the sideeffects. Maybe start on a low dose.

I took Wellbutrin with Ritalin during a period I had trouble getting out of bed, and it was too, too much! Too much nervous energy and too frazzling when the Ritalin wore off. But there you go, I guess everyone's different! Glad you are finding it helpful!

I took all three, but the Abilify didn't stop my mania, so I had to switch that one out.
