I have been taking Abilify the last 2 years for psychosis nos. I have lost motivation. I put on 30 pounds. And I am have difficulty concentrating on my schoolwork. After having a discussion with my husband, we have decided that I should stop taking it.

Does anyone know what kind of withdrawal symtpoms I could experience? And how long will the withdrawal last?

Is this something that is best discussed with your doc?

Hi Carole,

I quit taking abilify recently about five weeks ago and got severe muscle pain. I didn't realize it was related to the abilify until a pharmacist told me it was. (i had started working out again). I too put on weight from the abilify which was frustrating to say the least. Make sure you talk with your pdoc and wean yourself off it slowly, that will help the side effects that do happen. Do it wisely, don't cold turkey! Also get a second opinion. What one doctor thought was psychosis for me another said was my ptsd that was triggered in a very bad way. Hence this new doc doesn't think the psychosis will come back! Very good news for me.

Hope this helps.

Love and hugs,
Tara
Thanks for this!

I have been off of the Abilify since Friday. I thought that my psychosis would return in a horrible way. But they haven't. Right now the voices are just the usual comments that are made while I was on the meds. So I'm wondering if the drug had any affect on me at all.

I'm starting to feel more like myself now; a little more energy and having more motivation to do my schoolwork, which is great. However, I did have a couple of panic attacks in the last couple of days. I just had to go back on the Klonopin to compensate, which I will probably do for a little while.

All of this is great news for me and I wanted to share.

Hiya Carole,

Thanks for sharing! That is great news that the psychosis hasn't returned. It may never return but be careful and on the lookout in case it does. Have others be on the lookout with you too. I have given a list of my symptoms to a couple friends since quitting my meds and they are on the lookout for delusional thoughts and paranoia and psychosis. Always nice to have an extra eye that I can trust.

Love and hugs,
Tara

P.S. After stopping the abilify I found that I felt much more like my old self than I did on the drug. I became talkative and opinionated with theories about everything again! I love it!
