Anyone taken it, have any experiences with it?

Especially asking those who have *not* been diagnosed with OCD but still are taking it due to obsessive thoughts?

My therapist recommended I ask my doctor about it, since she's noticing an increase in my irrational thought patterns (depression sucks!) but apparently some compulsive thoughts aren't normal and could be decreased with using this Luvox. Or at least I think that's what I understood.

Any help?

I've already taken:
Cipralex (got off it due to weight gain)
Paxil (apparently it's related to Luvox or from the same period? I took Paxil for a week. It gave me brain zaps. I got off Paxil).
Effexor (I can't remember why I went off this...)
Pristiq (what I'm currently on. Not covered under drug insurance which is another reason to go off it).

I've also been on an anti-seizure med which apparently also serves as a mood stabilizer. I was on it for about three or more months, it didn't do much as I could see. Stopped it because it ALSO wasn't covered under my insurance as a mood stabilizer.

I am currently on luvox (300mg) something i was put on since cipralex wasn't working too well for me. I HAVE been dx'd with 'obsessive compulsive personality traits' BUT the main reason she put me on it was as an a/d, anxiolitic, as i also have extreme anxiety disorder and major depression.

It did help cut down on the irrational thoughts, but lately those have been coming back, but i'm not *quite* as obsessive as before. As for depression/anxiety, it helped.. at first.. but not quite enough which is why i'm on the max dose and still anxious and depressed. FOR ME i can't say it's been a horrible drug or anything, but after we're done playing around with my mood stabilizer, i am being taken off the luvox and put on cylexa as i just don't think it's doing as much as i need it to do. But please remember that all people are different, it may be The One for you, kwim?

Good luck! hope you start feeling better soon.
Thanks for this!

Hi there,

I took Luvox for a long time when I had severe OCD. It reduced the thoughts, especially those related to the eating disorder. I became able to combat the negative or irrational thoughts and that helped tremendously. It did make me tired at first but that passed. Later on (and why I went off it) was that it made me start lactating. Weird side effect that is very rare.

Anyhow, I hope it works for you.

Love and Hugs,
Tara

Wow good luck, I had never heard of this but from what the net says, it looks like it's good for obsessive thinking (at least for OCD). No antidepressant has really cut down on my anxiety but I've noticed that SSRIs like Paxil help for the negative spirals... Good luck!
Thanks for this!

Just started it last night. Major headache, nausea and just not hungry. But I've had worse side effects. Will have to see how it goes... starting at 50mg is brutal, I really should have seen about tapering onto it!!

Note to anyone taking this: May cause an INCREASE in bad/negative thinking... I'm hoping that goes away and is only a temporary side effect as this is only my third day on it. Otherwise I'm taking an antidepressant that makes me more depressed...

hi, there christina86, I too have just gone on Luvox for obsessive thoughts, but am not officially diagnosed with OCD. I've been on it for two weeks, and at first I didn't notice any difference, but now I think it is helping. I have noticed headaches and ringing in my ears. my pdoc didn't want me on too much antidepressant so he halved my Effexor at the same tome. that could be causing the headaches. I have heard that it takes many weeks to determine if Luvox is working, so hang in there and be patient, and let us know how u are doing.
Thanks for this!

Hiya,

I'm now on Luvox again for social anxiety. Apparently it's supposed to help. I quit my meds over three weeks ago and have been doing really well but the last couple days have been emotional. I think being emotional is okay but my anxiety has been through the roof. So I started taking the Luvox prescribed to me. I'm hoping the tiredness isn't going to get as severe as it was, as i've recently recalled.

Love and hugs,
Tara
