Im on Geodon (160mg at night)
Lithium (900mg total 1 morning 2 at night) I belive one of these although they seem to be helping me especially the Geodon with my hallucinations, works so wel i hardly have any or they are like background music....there but not annoying like they used to be...but i am having major weight gain from these...17lbs in less then 30 days....my eating happens have NOT changed at all... So my question to you is, what meds as much are you taking and what bad side effects have you had from them..thanks so much...i have way too many health issues to be hving huge weight gains added to them. Thanks in advance. |

I've been taking;
Seroquel (100mg at night) Respiridone (1mg at morning & night) Lithium 1200mg (600 morning & night) Seroquel and Respiridone both cause weight gain as a side effect. They have definitely helped me though. I gained a lot of weight since taking them, without any changes to my daily routine (probably about 50lbs at the worst point). There is a drug that I am going to ask my Dr. about, Metformin. It is a drug to control blood sugar and weight gain caused by psych. meds. If Metformin is not an option for me, I am going to ask my Dr. for a change in meds. |

The anti-psychotic that has been the best for me has been the Geodon. I have not experienced any weight gain with it. I did have MAJOR weight gain on the Lithium however when I was on it once upon a time, and some of the others.

I have had good luck with Abilify with no weight gain.

Low dose Doxepin 25mg
Hydroxyzine 100mg+ Has fixed my psychosis and disorganization ... at least for now. |

Abilify works great for me. No weight gain or any other negative side effects.

I took Abilify for quite some time awhile back and it didnt do much but made my hands twitch kinda bad...sometimes it was funny cause id hit somebodies arm or something if they were sitting next to me....okay not funny haha but ya know...they were big twitches not baby ones. But for real I stopped the lithium and almost lost the 17lbs ive gained since i started it so its the lithium for sure id say....thanks yall for letting me know other options to possibllly talk to my doctor about.

I've had good success with Risperidone in terms of treating my mood - I take 3 mg / day. I haven't gained any weight on it, but it does have some negative side effects that I don't like. First off it completely messes up my period, it causes me to lactate, although thankfully not heavily, gives my hands a slight tremor, and causes me to have a really flat affect, which is a real problem in my professional life.
But as a cautionary note, risperidone is one of the stronger atypicals, and can have some serious side effects. I briefly went up to 4 mg last summer when I was in a depressive episode. It fixed my depression, but after about 3 months at the higher dose, I started having bad extra-pyramidal side effects such as having trouble walking. I tried nearly every antipsychotic there is. They just werent working for me. I gained over forty pounds. Lithium made my thyroid act up. Abilify gave me akathsia. Zyprexa worked great but screwed with my depth perception and I almost fell down a flight of stairs and something happened to where I could not retrieve my words to speak them. After 2 1/2 years of trying new meds every three months my pdoc finally just put me on the old timer haldol and it worked great. 1mg a day. been stable on it now over a year and ahalf. its really bizarre to go from rapid cycling to no cycling, every little shift in mood im expecting my world to come crashing down and it doesnt. stable. takes some getting used to. life is actually boring now.

I had the "could not retrieve my words to speak them" going on really bad when i first started Geodon...well maybe a week after i started, even would do it typing...it was a bit scary and very annoying...glad THAT is gone.

Squirrel maybe your doctor can add a med and take that as well as the other...if its been working id stick with it. Maybe not an increase but thats up to you and your doc.
