Hi,
So my doc decided to switch me from celexa to effexor xr. I was only on celexa for 2 weeks but it was making me REALLY tired, to the point where I was slacking at work, and napping on my days off, sleeping through my alarm, etc. So she decided to switch to effexor xr since it is in a diff class(SNRI). However, now I am researching and finding all these terrible reviews. I do like that it does not cause weight gain, but I'm finding alot of bad side effects from people. Is it worth it, or should my doc be trying something else first?? Anyone have GOOD experiences with it??

I have nothing good to say about effexor. i was on it for little over a week probably, but it was making me SO tired it was dangerous to drive I was yawning so much and so expansively that I couldnt see the road. Definately not the med for me as I was a commuter.

I've been taking it for several years. It worked well for many years. I didn't experience any side effects but I would have a hard time discontinuing it. I tried twice. It was awful. The withdrawal symptoms included some of the side effects reported by others. I'd never experienced any withdrawal when discontinuing other anti-depressant meds.

It worked fantastically for me, for a very long time. No complaints about it whatsoever, I just got off it when it stopped working for me.

I am on Effexor XR and have been on it for 10 years. Its still working and I had absoutely no problems with it at all!!!! Not even one.......
We are all different. I know every med I have tried has immediately worked for me. This is the second drug. The first was prozac and I was on that 11 years before it quit. I truly am blessed .
Good luck with it!!
Hugs;
Dee

I've been on Effexor for close to 10 years now and it's really working for me. I have minimal side effects now, a little dizziness and nausea about 4 hours after taking it, that lasts for about 20 min., and occassionally breaking out in really heavy sweats. It's been a great drug for me.

So far Effexor XR is the only drug that works well for me. I was on it for 5 years, went off of it because my insurance didn't want to pay for it and took Lexapro instead, had a major depressive episode on Lexapro, and now am back on Effexor XR which is working great.

It is really hard to discontinue though. No side effects while on it but discontinuing it is a major pain.
