I'm on Zyprexa which I really like...except that it's made me gain weight

I've gained about 7 pounds in the two weeks I've been on it. (I went from 114.4 to 121). For me, that's a ton!!! It's not actually all that bad since I was underweight when I started, and I'm now just above my normal, healthy weight (117-119)...but I hate it! My clothes aren't fitting me right and I just feel fat! It also doesn't help that one of my my best friends said something about me having some pudge earlier today...

It's not that the weight gain is problematic really...I'm just not used to being this size since my weight goes down when my mental health goes down...and I haven't been this okay mentally in so long that I got used to being so little that this difference just makes me feel like crap. I'm super far from being an unhealthy weight...but I wish that I could go back to where I was. My self esteem is so much lower now it's ridiculous.

Ugh!

I also know that it's not all directly from Zyprexa...I'm eating a much more normal amount now...but it's about twice as much as I have been. Like my weight, while my eating habits were pretty constant, they were bad...I wasn't eating nearly enough and would consider it a good day if I ate 4 times whereas when I'm doing well I eat more like 6 times a day.

...Guess it's weird to be complaining when a med is doing its job...

Zyprexa has a weight loss/dietitian program for people on zyprexa. Your Pdoc can sign you up for it. I was on zyprexa this past winter... gained a TON of weight. Good news is that it comes off fast too if you get to a point where you have to change meds. I too loved the effects of zyprexa except the weight gain. I too was very under weight before going on it. hoping to try something different this coming winter (I use it to boost the effect of my welbutrin).

Since I'm actually finally at a healthy weight, I'm not really worried...it just sucks because I feel fat, ya know?

I gained 7 lbs from seroquel then switched to zyprexa and gained 8 more lbs. So 15lbs in a month. Driving my Ed high gear. Frustrating. Sorry I don't have anything positive to share. Just sharing the gaining.

Yeah...it sucks. I currently have just one pair of shorts that fits, 2 if you count the ones I stole from my sister...not counting my athletic shorts which are super stretchy...not sure about pants...I'm sure some of it is because I'm PMSing, but it shouldn't be this bad

From what I heard, Zyprexa Zydis causes less weight problems than the Zyprexa Tablets. They are a melt in the mouth version of Zyprexa, and from what I've read, they may cause less weight gain because it doesn't reach the stomach, it just goes directly to the brain.

Only caution I know of when switching to the Zydis form is that you can't take it if you have PKU.
