I find hot weather extremely oppressive. It actually can ramp up my depression. When I first went on Tricyclics, that problem seemed to get a lot worse. I've been on tricyclics for so many years, I have no idea how my heat tolerance would be if I was off them. For years I took amitriptyline, now nortriptyline.
Living in the desert, it gets awfully hot mid-day and evening. Thank goodness, there is some relief at night. Does anyone else connect hot weather with worsening depression? Also, does anyone else use a tricyclic and find it makes you more heat intolerant? Also, I have an unusually fast heart rate. Since it got real hot, when I lie down, I can feel and hear my heartbeat in my head. I tried staying up at night and sleeping through the day, but that just got me more scrambled up. I just feel so miserable. |

Some meds can definitely make you more heat sensative. Some meds can also make you more photosensative meaning you burn in the sun more easily. I'm on meds with both side effects so it's a real pain. Haven't found any good solutions other than lots of sunscreen and a good fan.
As for the rapid heartbeat, some meds can cause that. I had to go off one med as it gave me tachycardia, but if you've been on the med awhile and that's a new symptom it might not be meds related. Might be worth talking to your Dr. about. splitimage |

My dr makes me sign stuff about meds in the heat and sun - you should definitely check with your pharmacist and pdoc about what you're on. you have to be very careful to stay extra hydrated in the summer.

I realize now that I have not been drinking enough. Now I drink lots more, and I sure feel better.
