Hi Cam,

I remember you mentioning that were taking Dex recently. I've been on Adderall XR, 10mg, 2x daily for at least a year and a half now for fatigue. As you know, I work very long hours. Over the last 5 months or so, I've found that the Adderall isn't working. I'll take breaks of a week or two from it and it seems to work better for a day or two, but then I'm back to nothing. I even did an experiment one day and took 100mgs over a 8 hour period and felt nothing. Soooo, I'm wondering if Dex might be a viable alternative for me?

I'd appreciate any feedback you could give me on this.

All my love to you and yours,
bp

bp - I have found that Adderal tends to poop-out after awhile, although I have not used it clinically in any cases. My main knowledge comes from talking with a child psychiatrist and what I have read on the internet.

Dexedrine is a good drug, but it tends to have addictive qualities (ie. a tendency to increase the dose, once your body adjust to the drug, in order to get the same pleasurable "rush" that you felt when you first started taking the drug).

The Dexedrine Spansules do overcome this problem by being a slow release formulation, and slow release tends to avoid giving that initial rush as is seen with the regular Dexedrine. I found the rush to be annoying because I'd be trying to do everything at once at work, rushing here and there, but not accomplishing anything.

I find 10mg in the morning lasts until 3pm to 4pm, if I take just as I get to work (between 8am & 9am).

And don't think that you can get around the sustained release by crushing or chewing the capsules; the can slightly burn your tongue, and if you snort the crushed tablets you end up with a sore, red nose (that can lead to bleeding) that eventually starts peeling. The red peeling nose is very distinctive (at least to me), so your doc may be able to see if you are abusing the drug or not.

The drug can, in some people, cause paranoid thoughts and the flightiness I described, above.

Sorry, gotta keep this short; I'm using someone's dial-up AOL account and they get charge by time. I will be home late Saturday and will try to get online on Sunday.

Take care big-guy. Love - Cam

Again, I warn that addictive personalities sometimes have problems with this drug, but the long-acting format takes away some of this concern.

bad boy here---the neat thing on dex is it's been around so long. i ran into it decades ago as a U student. when exams were coming up, every student i knew was taking it and 'cramming'. i'm on it now, by script, as an attempt to counter risperdal damage. the new wonder-drug deprenyl, proven to extend lab rats lives 30%+ and make old rats act young, has two main metabolites--methamphetamine and dexedrine. interesting---when in my twenties, twice i cracked severe depression with dexidrine---i thought shrinks were guys that looked like freud and you laid on a couch. deprenyl is exspensive. dex is cheap.
and i never had a problem just stopping---when depression was gone, it just made me nervous. best wishes
