I have been on 100mg of Lamotrigine for 8 weeks for bi-polar 2, My psych told me to stop immediately when I developed blisters on my fingers. it is very cold being winter here, so I went to my gp and he said they were chilblains! Thank goodness as I was feeling quite stable for a change. Hope I can stay on it as it is the best I have felt for awhile.

What are chilblains? Are they caused by the Lamictal or something else?

Wow, I'm glad it wasn't serious. I'm on 250mg Lamotrigine daily, as well as a few other things in a nice coctail that seems to be working better than anything I've ever had. I'm glad you're having a positive result with this medication. Have you found that you've had any dizziness or clumsiness while on it? I fell over on the floor trying to look into the oven recently! Have you had any shaking of your hands or dexterity issues? I'm curious of the effects other people experience on this med.

Just wanted to add that if you are a woman, and using birth control, the half life of Lamotrigine is decreased, and a higher dose might be necessary, so make sure to tell your prescribing doctor if you are and they don't know. But obviously, if it's working for you, you don't need to change anything right now

silverlining4me, you made my day, I have never heard an actual person use that word, only ever seen it in a Dickens or Little Men or somesuch. Chilblains has always been one of my favorite words! I'm sorry you got them, of course! Hope you're feeling better now.

I became interested in chilblains and looked it up on the Internet. Interesting! Sounds painful. I hope you have your chilblains under control now, silverlining. I have learned something new and think chilblains is a very cool word. (I like words.) In my medical dictionary, it lists "pernio" as a synonym.

In any case, I am glad the chilblains aren't a side effect of the Lamictal and you can keep taking it. Sounds like it has really helped.

I am on 400mg of lamictal. I have noticed some issues with balance, but nothing major. Of course, it isn't working so who knows what would happen if it did

I love my lamictal. 200mg for me, and yes I do notice the balance problems. I take mine at night and if I get up to use the bathroom I walk like a drunk. LOL.
