I have discovered that my newest combination of medicines, cymbalta and wellbutrin, do not mix well with wine for me. Does anyone else have this problem? It must be the mix of the wine with the wellbutrin because I have taken cymbalta for years with no side effects. Last night I drank 3 glasses of wine and today has been absolutely horrible! I have been shaky and have felt dizzy all day, even now 24 hours later. I will be talking to my dr. about this, but meanwhile no more wine for me!

I'm surprised there was no warning label on your prescription bottle. I'm pretty sure every state requires one.
Sorry you're feeling so badly. Sure glad it was wine & not hurricanes or zombies!

I am sure that there is a warning label that I should have paid attention to. Having been on psych meds for 10 years, including a previous time on wellbutrin, I foolishly didn't even consider a reaction. Oh well, this is a good lesson to remind me to stay away from alcohol, which I occasionally abuse during down times.

My understanding is that Cymbalta is particularly rough on the liver. The combination of cymbalta and alcohol seems to me to be a bad idea anyway.

I have been on Wellbutrin for many years and had no problem with drinking pretty much as much as I wanted. Which was often a lot. Especially when hypo/manic.
But then I added Lamictal and now I'm feeling it out all over again with the "can I drink wine, and if so how much?" question. Maybe tonight I'll try 2 glasses; one seems OK so far. I just need to figure out my limits, right? ![]()

I've been on Wellbutrin for a year now. I haven't noticed a difference with drinking while on it.
You should just see what your limit is. Maybe only one glass of wine wouldn't do you any harm. |
