I just needed to know if there is anyone who has had debilitating spasms or debilitating back spasms? I have been on Lamictal now for 6 weeks and have been dealing with spasms for about 5 weeks. I did not put 2+2 together, and I am not saying that it is but it does make me wonder.
Although I have GAD, I am trying to manage my GAD and I am making sure to keep it in check and make sure that it is not anxiety that is not the issue but a reaction to medication. Thanks! |

I've never heard anyone comment on that problem. Wish I had more to offer you.

I've not heard of that either. However, backache is a listed potential side effect of Lamictal. General rule of thumb is that if something is interfering with your normal functioning you need to go to your doctor and get the medication changed.

I take Lamictal and I have never had back spasms from it. Or any other side effects. One of the best meds I have been on as far as side effects. Sorry! I do have anxiety issues also and I know that can cause all sorts of very strange things to happen. Hope you find the cause and you can relieve you distress.

Thank you for the replies. I am going to see my doc today as there have been a number of other issues that I need to address in addition to the back spasm's. The odd thing about this whole thing is that my first round I was taking Lamictal ODT and it worked without any problems, but now, I am on the generic and am not seeing the same results. So, either the anxiety is an issue or the meds are not working
![]() Given my moods being up and down as well as being easily agitated, I am guessing that something is not quite right yet. I am by no means knocking Lamictal as it has been the only anti-depressant that has even made a dent in my depression! |

I am on Lamictal, (for the past 5 weeks) and just had a back spasm tonight... but i have no idea if it was related... interesting to consider though. I'll update and tell you if I ever have any more.

I am definitely discovering something interesting here. I have gone over 24 hours without a single spasm in my back. As I was only on 50mg of Generic Lamictal so tapering off of it is easy and yesterday was the last day of it.
I am physically doing better, I was actually able to do housework yesterday so I was very happy that I could do something. As I have been taken off of Lamictal, they have since put me on Generic Zoloft and we will see how this works. I have been on it before and don't recall weather it worked or not. I have an appointment with my Psychologist today so we will talk about it. I will keep you posted on if the spasms continue to cease. |
