My psychiatrist wants to put me on Geodon, the antipsychotic, for anxiety and depression and OCD issues and a whole slew of reasons.. I do not have schizophrenia. I've been on Abilify before for similar reasons and that seemed to help, I think, but she seems to think Geodon will be much better.

Anyone been on this before? For schizophrenia or anything else... experiences? opinions?

Thank you

I was on Geodon for a bit. I have, too, have been on a bunch of "antipsychotics" even though I'm bipolar--including seroquel. I didn't see that Geodon was probably any worse than the rest of these poisons, but it happened to make me too sleepy at even a low dosage so my p-doc took me off. I'm trying to stay off of the antipsychotics, because I have been having some facial trembling, etc. and I fear tardive dyskinesia. They definitely do take the wind out of the sails of mania, though!

My husband started taking Geodon in June. It made a world of difference for him. Besides being extremely depressed and agitated, he was also psychotic & delusional. His psyachiatrist thinks there's some kind of bipolar element going on - he dosen't fit one category and sorta is in the other (but not quite either) He was also mostly concerned about the odd behavior that was happening. Hence, the Geodon.

Anyhow, the meds started working and he is pretty much getting to be like his old self. He actually wants to get back to work as a certified peer support person (he was let go because he was ill)

It was a long road to hoe (about a year) But now things are on the upward turn.

Hope to hear from others on their experiences.

Geodon helped my moods (I'm bipolar), but worsened my obsessions. It gave me stomachaches so I eventually went back to Zyprexa.

Geodon even at the lowest dose (20mg) worsened my mood states and gave me a rash so I couldn't remain on it. I was switched to another medication which works better for me.

I was just put on 20 mg today. She warned me about the rash and the dyskinesia and the akathesia... Ugh.

ghostoverground, watch out for side effects dealing with the heart. It gave me heart palpitations. Which now I have switched over to Abilify which has worked wonders for me.

I tried to take Geodon for a week and it caused me to have severe restless legs and pain. I could not sleep without elevating my legs higher than my head and I had to sleep on my back. It was very painful. Also during the short time I developed sweating problems (which I still have but not as severe) and I was constantly tired but I could not sleep because of my legs. It was horrible...

I have issues with BP, anxiety, depression, racing thoughts, a touch of OCD, and PTSD. I have been on Geodon for several years now and at the time I considered it to be a last resort.

It was a godsend. I wish I had not been so stubborn in putting it off. For me there have been minimal side-effects that can easily work with and I could actually function again. Starting slow is important.

If considering it, for as many horror stories as there are out there, there are positive stories, and every story in between. Unfortunately you won't know how you will react until you try it as each person's chemistry is so different.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck in your decision!

I was on Geodon for several months for bipolar. I did not feel that it stabilized my moods very well and it made me so dizzy, it got to the point where I could barely stand. But, others have had great results with it.

My experience with Geodon was a poor one. Very sedating. Severe akathisia. Felt like I was buzzing / drugged all the time. Yuck. I know it works for some people, though.

I am on Geodon as an adjunct to my depression medications. Don't know if it was that helpful, so I'm trying to stop. If you take it and decide to quite, be prepared for a long, long withdrawal period.

I was on geodon at one point and actually found it to be very effective. However, I had really bad drowsiness issues every morning that made it really dangerous to be behind the wheel of a car, so I discontinue it.

I am on Geodon now.. besides the sleepiness it has helped. But it has only been about a week so I cannot say it is horrible I guess. Although I am feeling a whole lot better then the mixture I was on of Viibryd and Effexor XR
