I have been trying to figure out why I get major anxiety and feel really wired within 15 minutes of taking nortriptyline.

I went to donate blood today and found out that my pulse was 122! My pulse is normally around 70-75, so this was way high for me. I monitored it all day, and when it started returning to normal, I felt more normal (not wired and anxious).

I'm thinking the racing heart was due to the nortriptyline, because thinking back, the anxiety issues started when i started taking it, and rapid heartbeat could be causing that.

I am going to skip it tonight and see how things go, but am guessing that I am not going to be able to take it anymore.

This is the 2nd tricyclic in a row that has caused problems. I hope they can find something else to give me to sleep.

i had the same issue with tricyclics. a resting heart rate of 130-140. there are many tricyclics to consider, with varying side effects. if the side effects continue to be a problem, you may have to try another class of meds. talk to your doctor about your side effects. you don't have to live with intolerable side effects. best wishes on finding something that works.

I went and looked up the drug as I never heard of it. I copied something for you .Sounds like a new med certainly is indicated and you should call Dr. Hope you are doing o.k
"Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. "

Thinking of you;
