I take Geodon for bipolar II, and at first my pdoc said to take it twice a day, so of course, I followed her instructions and I did. Well this proved to be a problem because I spent half the day sleeping. When I told her this she told me to taek it all at night, and now I can't sleep. What's up with that?

Anyone else unable to sleep on Geodon? What helped? I really like Geodon albeit not as much as Zyprexa...I might ask to go back on Zyprexa if this doesn't improve.

How are your other symptoms; contact the doc to let them know about this and the sleep. Sleep is just too valuable to go without. This may not be the med for you or a different dose is needed at the moment.

I couldn't divide my dose either with the Geodon due to the sleepiness during the day. If I take all the doses at night, I usually sleep and feel refreshed during the day. Except on higher dosages, can aggrevate the insomnia, but usually there are other symptoms that it is not helping with my BP during the day either as well. The balance gets upset and it is a fine line there; if it changes, then I know it needs to be backed down. Lower dosages of this, despite the manufacturer rec's, have worked just fine for me and contrary to the literature. The doc is always getting hassled I should be on higher dosages, but it works just fine and fortunately he doesn't listen to them. So go with what works for you whether this is the one for you or if you need to go back the Zyprexa, as you are your own best advocate.

I know it is not easy finding the right dose or the right med; contact your doc. Hang in there.

I'm doing pretty well overall. Not feeling too depressed not feeling hypomanic. I can get myself motivated enough to do things, even things I don't want to do like go to work. As I said, it's not as good as Zyprexa, but it's not bad, other than the sleep stuff.

I think I found a solution: Taking it in a split dose, but close together. If I take one at 7 and the other at 10 or 11 or something like that, I can still sleep.

Definitely worth trying. I hope it goes well, with pleasant dreams to boot!

Just as a reminder, Geodon needs to be taken with a meal not a snack for it to work optimally.
