Not my diagnosis--but I understand that they can stop hallucinations.....However, I'm still "bipolar" even though I take meds against it, just like people with diabetes still have it even though they take insulin or whatever, if that's what you're also wondering.....

If by "keeping you from being psychotic" you mean prevent another episode, there are no guarantee. While taking meds, it's still possible to relapse, but the risk is lower. But yes, you can take meds to at least reduce the severity of symptoms.
