I called my pdoc's office 3 weeks ago because a med they wanted to put me on for sleep wasn't covered by my insurance. Pdoc was out of the office, but they said they would try to get someone else to handle it.

I called again on Monday because I still had not heard anything and pdoc was back in the office then. It is now Thursday night and I still have not heard anything.

I am SO tired, literally. I just want to get a decent amount of sleep. 3-4 hours just isn't cutting it.

Any ideas of what I could say to the nurses as pdoc's office to actually get a call back? Is it unreasonable of me to expect a call back in less than a week since pdoc has been back?

All I can tell you for sure is that my pdoc would have gotten back to me by now. He's good about keeping in close contact getting meds to work.

When you call, do you speak to the same peoson every time? If not, I'd try asking for whomever you spoke with the first time & stick with that one person. Of that doesn't work, I'd go to the office & ask someone to get a msg to the doc while you're there.

Perseverance seems called for after three weeks.

I can't seem to get past the front desk people. Usually a nurse will call me back, but they keep having to "check with the doctor"

I mean, I realize I am a challenging case and finding the right meds, that I can afford to take, is a pain in the butt, but I still think it's unfair to just give me no answer.

I saw him close to a month ago, and was supposed to see him in a month after that, but they didn't have any appointments available till 2 months after my last appt. I don't see him again until December 2nd. I'm gonna lose it before then if I don't get some sleep!

Im so sorry your going thru all this mess ! I agree with roadrunners response ..

Sometimes you have to just keep calling or go into the office and talk to someone face to face !

I can so relate to having to find meds that you can actually afford to manage ..The best prescription in the world is no good if you cant afford it..

Keep calling and I hope they respond fast ..Lack of sleep is terrible and typically makes matters worse

(((hugs)))

Try asking the pharmacy to call and tell them you can't get through to the doc and you've hit a road block with the front desk. Sometimes they'll be more likely to get another healthcare professional to the doctors right then.

For a sleep problem, I have gone to my GP. So maybe try your GP since pdoc won't respond?

I once couldn't get past the front desk when I called my GP, even to talk to a nurse. They kept taking messages but no one ever called back. I had a deadline coming up so finally I just had to go in person to the office to get some action. There the nurse met with me and apologized for not responding. And she got me an appointment with the doctor the very next day. So I think going in person to the office is an option that might help.

I think the pharmacist idea is also a good one. They often call the doctors to get them to change prescriptions. Maybe if pharmacist calls, your doc will change the Rx to a med covered by your insurance.

When you do see your pdoc December 2, I think it would be good to ask him what is the best way to communicate with him between appointments and explain the difficulties you have had.

unfortunately, my gp won't prescribe anything for sleep. Pdoc had given me a prescription for one thing, but it wasn't covered, so he switched to whatever it was this time, but has not tried again, and I can't even get a call back
