I have depression and anxiety problems. I've tried Celexa in the past, with the typical SSRI side sexual side effects, which I don't like. I am on day 3 on the full dosage of Viibryd, but so far, pretty similar to Celexa. I've heard that libido and sexual side effects subside over time. Has anyone been on Viibryd for a while? What are your experiences?

Hi Kevn,
I tried Viibryd. I was on it for over 3 months before I stopped. I should also mention that I got was on the full 40mg dose for over 8 weeks. I found that it was not effectively treating my depression, plus the side-effects were driving me a bit crazy. While it managed my depression (i.e. reduced suicidal ideation), I was still not experiencing a "normal" mood. Also I had terrible sleep issues while on Viibryd. I slept very restlessly, waking briefly every 20-30 minutes and had extremely vivid and sometimes disturbing dreams. All in all I felt like I wasn't sleeping and I was still depressed so my pdoc and I agreed to discontinue it. Now I'm back on a high dose of regular Lexapro while he figures something else out...sigh. |

I forgot to say, my mom started taking Viibryd a month and half before me. She is still taking it, with pretty great results for managing her MDD.
I should also mention that when starting Viibryd there are a lot of side effects (digestive) that are really unpleasant, but they go away in 6-8 weeks of beginning the medication. It worked well for my mom just not for me.. |

I am currently on Viibryd, and have been since June (I went on it right after it hit the market).
It works ok for me. Not GREAT, but better than nothing. I've tried so many other meds that it was sort of a last resort. I had the typical stomach issues when I started it, but those have gone away. As far as sexual side effects, I'm thinking it's having more of an effect than it should... |
