I am currently on a low dose of Abilify. (5mg)
Anyway... I am so tired about four hours after i take it. My doctor wants to up my dose. I am hesistant because I initially experienced really bad headaches while adjusting to the drug. Should I take my docs advice and up the dose? Anyone with experience uping their abilify dose? |

Hi Ashleigh, why don't you just try taking it at bedtime if it makes you tired than see if you feel better the next day. I don't think you have to take it in the morning as long as you take it.
I have not taken it but when I took Zoloft that made me tired and I eventually stopped taking it. But I never thought of just taking it at night until my therapist told me that if you take an antidepressant and it makes you tired than take it at night. Open Eyes |

I just took my 1st dose tonight (2.5mg). I was told by both my dr and my pharmacist to take it at night as it does cause drowsiness. Hopefully if you can take it about 4hrs before you go to bed you will be able to get a great nights sleep?!

I've always taken my Abilify right before I go to bed. When I first started I would only sleep abt 4-5 hrs. I'd wake up wide awake at like 5am. UGH That doesn't happen anymore though.
BUT for me higher doses made me more groggy and flattened my emotions. I have always went back down to 2-2.5mg. So for me the lower dose has been more activating. I guess it would depend what your diagnosis is if 10mg is even needed. Cuz it honeslty may make you more sedated. If 5mg is helping your mind then why would you go up? I'd ask the dr that. Also how long have you been on it? Because it took me a good 2-3 months for side effects to level out.

I don't seem to have adjusted to this med. I have spent the past 2 weeks suffering from utter exhaustion, but not sleepiness. In fact, I had trouble sleeping which made the exhaustion worse. I refused to take it last night and I feel so much better today, although not 100%. This is on 5mg; I will try going back onto 2.5mg after the Christmas break. If I have any chance of finding work in the new year then I have to be 100%. How did the change in time work for you Ashleigh? Taking it at night has made no difference to the exhaustion for me.
