I'm only 24, but as a side effect to my meds I have serious hotflashes where I sweat profusely and they feel like their never going to end.
Anytime I eat/drink something hot Get a hot shower Exercise Become nervous The temperature in the room changes too quickly Get slight dehydrated, at all Exert myself at all They're killing me! I can't function like this. I just had one like 20 minutes ago, and I am starting another one right now, because I moved a lot in my seat to get comfortable. It starts in my face moves to my chest and arms. And the worst part is my doctor claims that "None of your medications cause this". =/ I am on a lot of meds, so I have no idea when they started, and with what medication. But I am very very sensitive to medications and I finally found something. Otherwise I'm psychotic and in a hospital. So I can't exactly stop taking them to find out. But what can I do? Does anyone else get these horrible things? |

Are you certain it is a side effect of the meds and not premature onset menopause? Have you seen your gyn doc recently/any blood work?

Hmm... I've never seen a ob/gyn. I decided I would though... because my periods have been really irregular... I didn't think someone could get menopause at age 24? But I guess anything is possible... and so the sudden mood swings mystery has been solved. hahh

not solved but something to think about.
How about thyroid tests? Have you had bloodwork for that? Or have you have panic attacks that reoccur?

I sweat much more than I used to with the slightest exertion. And I am very sensitive to changes in room temperature. I expect that some of the other things listed would cause me to sweat as well. I attributed the sweat upon exertion to serious weight gain; a side effect of my meds. The extreme sensitivity to changes in room temperature, I'm sure are a direct result of my meds. Like you I can't make any changes. I would become psychotic as well.

I would definitely go to the doctor for a check-up to rule out physical illnesses. Off the top of my head it could be hyperthyroidism or, as Yoda said, premature menopause. A few blood tests should rule those out and more.
Also, have you looked online to see if it is an uncommon side effect. My pdoc once told me that tinnitus wasn't a side effect of a particular med and I looked it up in the BNF (British National Formulary) and it was! (He apologised when I proved him wrong! lol) If you post a list of your meds (if you are comfortable to do that obviously), I'd be willing to look them up in the BNF for you. *Willow* |

Hi, I've been having hot flashes too - just as you describe. My hormone levels are normal, and I've had tests to check my thyroid profile, as they can occur if your thyroid is overactive, but in my case it wasn't that. My doctor is putting it down to my anxiety. Anxiety can cause a LOT of physical symptoms. If I were you I'd get some blood tests to rule out any physical causes, just to be safe, but I wouldn't necessarily expect to find anything. You don't mention which meds you're on, but I've noticed the sweating/ hot flashes more since starting on beta blockers (propranolol) - which were prescribed for anxiety, and have helped with a lot of the panic attacks and racing heartbeat etc, but I do find I sweat a lot more when I work out etc, and they're making me quite tired, so my doctor has said I can cut my dose down and use on more of an as/when basis and see if that helps.
