Just found and joined this site. I was wondering if these drugs directly affect anyones ability to maintain erection or acheive one. I am also getting older (55) now; so not sure if combination of the two. But have not had this problem before recently started on this round of medications. I will fill in my profile later. Wanted to get right on board.

YES..................... many antidepressant will decrease ones sexual ability to become aroused or to be able to produce an erection. If this problem keeps up after your body has had a fair amount of time to adjust to the medicine and it bothers you emotionally I would discussion the matter with your doctor and maybe be placed on another medicine, one with less sexual side effects. Welcome, Ketut!!
Obviously I cannot speak from the male perspective, but I am in your age bracket and for the past 15 years have taken (not all at the same time): Prozac, Zoloft, Depakote, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Ativan, Xanax, Restoril, Seroquel and Ambien. None or no combination of the above have ever affected my sexuality negatively. I realize every person is different, but this has been my experience. Good luck to you! __________________ |

I know blood pressure meds. can affect males like that, are you on any blood pressure meds? My brother has been on Lithium for over 30yrs., claims he never had those kind of problems. But everyone is different, I'd suggest you talk with your doc, if this is becoming a problem for you, they may be able to eliminate, change or add another med.
Take care, DE __________________ |

I have to say that I had problems with Wellbutrin, but those were easily solved by the various ED drugs. It got much worse after adding Effexor, but the problems disappeared after discontinuing both. I have not taken topiramate, but I have had no problems with my current cocktail, which includes lithium, Lamictal and trazodone.
Wellbutrin was better than the SSRI's I took before, but I don't feel that I have really felt "normal" until the past few months. Now, if I could just find someone for human testing.... welbutrin is used for many things - depression, as well as contorlling otherwise uncontrolable urges in sexual disorders and over eatingdisorders and also as a supressor to help people quit smoking.
it is a suppressor drug. It supresses sexual urges which is why at times on people like rapists are being prescribed it, and it also suppresses eating urges also which is why when prescribed as an anitdepressant it is not recommended for people with eating disorders and when people with eating disorders are prescribed this for their depression they need to be closely monitored. When I looked in my prescription drug book it does say impotence is a sideeffect. |
