Been taking it on and off for years.

Its the only one that helps me, ativan makes me too dissasociated I find. That may be placebo, I dunno, but I avoid it for that reason.

Problem is, the doctor im seeing is extremely hesitant to give it to me and is convinced that I shouldnt need it since I am taking the effexor xr 150.

I just started therapy, and am wound tighter than a screw on a circus ride.

right now i take 0.5 mg, and Im having to take upwards of 4 of them before I feel normal again.

also note I do not take them every day, usually for about the equivalent of a week and a half every month, spread out though not all together.

I would like something stronger, I understand the effects that it can have, such as the addictiveness.

But right now with starting therapy, I am getting vicious flashbacks and am just scared to death..

I want to find a way to communicate this to my doctor so he understands that while he is hesitant my quality of life is dropping like flies. I havent been to work because of this in a week and a half.

I am constantly upset because I hate taking them, because of the fear my doctor has instilled in me, and Im constantly upset because I feel like i shouldnt need them like he said, but sometimes I do.

Can you go higher dosage with these? Or something else in addition maybe?

Clonazepam, I take, can help the highly anxious feelings. They are reluctant to prescribe it because it is felt to be addictive. Ativan, was hard for me to take too. My legs would give out in the morning when I got out of bed. I'm not sure on dosages, but yours seems to be at the high end. But since you are not taking it every day, it wouldn't send red flags. If you need Clonazepam to work on your therapy, I would encourage you expressing that to your PDoc. Something stronger??? Maybe an antipsychotic, very low dose and believe me, they are not addictive.

I have been on Klonopin for over three years now, starting at 0.5mg as needed up to 1mg twice a day for my panic disorder. The dose of Xanax I was on was getting too high for my doc's comfort, so we made the switch. I don't feel I'm addicted, and can tell when I've missed a dose, as I feel more anxious and nervous. As long as you have a doc that is careful and monitors you closely, addiction shouldn't be an issue. Be honest with your doc, because they can pick up on the signs of addiction before you can.

I'm on it but I feel like I am addicted because I can't sleep without it.

I just started taking it again for my anxiety/panic attacks. I am also on .5mg but it takes a lot to make a difference - 4 or 5 and then I settle down.

Rainbowzzz: How quickly did you get to the 150 mg of Effexor XR? I have been on it for about 4 weeks now but I am ONLY on 37.5 mg! My doctor understands how sensitive I am to any type of drug so has been very cautious about how quickly she is moving me up in the dosage. I saw her yesterday because I felt the same way you do - wound up like crazy and I ran out of my Ativan. I only take .5 mg in the morning, 30 min before I take my Effexor and it makes a world of difference for me. She agreed to give me more Ativan until I get to the higher levels of Effexor (when it starts to work on the anxiety part of my problem) because it has already helped with the depression - even on this low dose. I need it to get over the hump and I understand that a lot of doctors do prescribe something like Ativan to get people through the worst part of adapting to the ADs. Just my two cents worth.
