Difficult to shift weight . Despite cutting out takeaways and generally eating less = only 6lbs loss in 3 months. Gave up in frustration. Now 6lbs heavier than when i started. Think being on the anti psychotic(injection) has a lot to do with it. Reckon 3 choices (1) Come off antipsychotic risking worsening symptoms and try again
(2) Stay on antipsychotic but virtually starve myself. Maybe then i'll lose the desirable 1-2 lbs a week (3) Stay on antipsychotics and just accept that the price of comparatively better mental health is an obese/fat as f*** me. Is it any wonder so many quit antipsychotics when it can be a toss up between the lesser of two evils -symptoms v side effects ie big one = weight gain to very unhealthy levels. It 's obvious the drug manufacturers don't give a toss or they'd have developed a range of aps without big weight gain as a side effect. ![]() |

Get your thyroid checked if you havent already. It can make it impossible to lose weight.

It is really unfair that people already having a problem, are given one more when put on meds. Antipsychotics can really mess up your metabolism. Losing weight on them can need really drastic measures, which are probably not really good. Starvation doesn't feel particularly good either...
Maybe you can try to shift your diet towards less calorie dense food, so you don't have to feel like you're starving. It's kind of hard to accept others can stuff their faces and be skinny, and you could probably not lose, switching half your normal diet to non starchy veggies. The accepting is hard. That you were given a different deal. But maybe you need to cut back on the "good stuff", but if it was me, I would probably only do it to a point where I allowed myself a bit of weight gain, but not too much. So I wouldn't take any of the alternatives to the extreme. |
