Has this happened to anyone else? They have tried to add antipsychotics but they just make me tired.

They all make you tired. I just had to wait for the "waiting period" to be over, which could vary from 3-5 days or 1 wk to 6 weeks. It varies from person to person.

Most of them have stopped working for me. The one I take now still works, but I only take a small dosage so I think that helped.

They usually helped between 6 months to 2 years for me. Antipsychotics never helped me with depression at all.

Yep. I have tried somewhere around 40 meds (anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, etc...), and have had many that work for a few months and then quit

Oh my God I tried Topamax this weekend and I don't think I have ever felt so bad in my life + it took about two days to get out of my system. Worst experience ever!

Shame Nicole that sounds very discouraging, have you found something that works for you now?

Cocoabeans I did try lamictal about a month ago, I felt like I was flying in the sky until unfortunately I got a terrible rash all over my legs, I was so disappointed.

Jimrat which antidepressants have you tried? And which one are you on now that works?

I think I want to try Lexapro or Zoloft next as it says they are quite popular.

The anti-psychotic least likely to make you tired is abilify. So I would try that one. You can also augment your anti-depressant with lithium.

Wow jimrat that is a lot of meds. I havent heard of the luvox, is it new? How long have you been on it now?

Bipolarmedstudent, thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I was on both abilify and lithium but I felt the lithium didn't do much at all and the abilify gave me the same hunger pangs and I am very weight conscious.

Luvox=fluvoxamine is one of the oldest SSRI's. It's not used much these days because it was orphaned and only made as a generic. I hear Solvay picked it up again, although mine are made by Abbott. It's seen as the SSRI with the least side effects, although it comes with a vile caffeine intolerance.

Part from not being a money maker, it's a bit of a hit and miss med. I've never heard about anyone getting "a little" help from it. Either nothing, or a very good effect. But it can be my and doctors' perception as well, since it has become a rare med.

I've been on it eight years. So it lasted me a long time. Can't imagine going off it though, it has a short half life, and that usually means severe withdrawals.

Not really a lot of meds, I didn't list meds for other things (sleep, anxiety) that I tried....

Hm, discovered one more reason why it is probably not used for depression in USA. It doesn't have the indication. It IS an antidepressant. But for some reason it is only allowed for one single anxiety disorder.

Weird.

But I know indications can be odd. Here one med has indication for a certain illness and in other countries they have a warning using it for that illness........
