My doctor just added Saphris to my medications to stop my current mania. I know nothing about this med or its side effects other than it took about 40 min. for the numbness to leave my tongue after taking it. Can people share their experience with this drug? Thanks

Saphris Let me rephrase thread title
HOPE THIS HELPS, Kaliope.

Can anyone help me understand why this happened? Please; I welcome any comments.

At my doctor's suggestion, I took 5 mg of Saphris the other day, at 4pm as she told me. I was calm for about 3 minutes, then fell into a deep sleep. Family couldn't wake me up so they got worried. I would wake up long enough to answer their question only 2 or 3 words and then fall asleep again. They took my blood pressure; it was slightly low. I had no fever. No vomiting. But my thighs (quads) began to feel as though bugs were in the muscle, and I couldn't kick it out because how does one kick their thighs? I started to panic and this is when they looked into my eyes. My pupils were pinpoints, and when they looked this up online, the only references were to heroin trips and od's. WtF? at Saphris. Anyone ever have this experience or can anyone think of why this may have happened? Needing .

I found it to be a great drug for my bipolar. I had to stop because i had an allergic reaction and it burned my tongue very badly. It kept me balanced for a while and helped me sleep.

My husband has been on Saphris for a while now and it has been a miracle for him. He takes 10mg in the morning and 10 at night. The only complaints he's had is it makes him sleepy(usually he has to take an hour nap after his first dose) and it tastes horrible. He is on it for Schizophrenia. Hopefully it works as great for you.
Thanks for this!

Boy it knocks me out too, not something to take if you have plans in the morning. It seems to be getting better but my daughter says I look like a zombie.

I just started Saphris last night and it did make me fall asleep pretty quickly. It did taste terrible but I used a Jolly Rancher and it helped a lot. I would say that the taste lingered for at least as long as it took for the candy to dissolve and I probably fell asleep within an hour. I usually need to take a triazolam to fall asleep but did not need that at all. I slept pretty hard and woke up later than usual. Had a pretty good day, noticed a dull headache but nothing else. Am going to take a little earlier tonight. Will let you know how it goes. I am taking it for bipolar/mood stabilizing.

My teenage daughter has bipolar. She took Geodon for three years and it was incredibly successful. Then she slipped into a hypomanic/manic episode that lasted several months. Pdoc had her try Latuda, which did nothing for her. Then we tried Saphris. She *hates* the taste, but it returned her to us. She's been in wonderful shape since starting it. She takes 10mg at night - and goes right to sleep. A side-benefit of Saphris is that it has helped her have more regular sleep patterns. And best of all, like Geodon, it has not caused weight gain.

just to update. i took the saphis for about three weeks and stopped. after two weeks on it, i had an allergic rash on my leg on night. the next evening i seemed to have an allergic reation feeling like when i eat something i am allergic to. i had been out in the sun for almost two hours which the paperwork warned against and i was feeling really weird. a couple days later after taking it, my tongue felt really thick and i had difficult talking. i took benedryl and a half hour later i was fine. another morning i felt like i was drunk, just really out of it, disoriented. i got my coffee from starbucks and missed my window, hit my car and spilt it everywhere. then the muscle aches like whiplash suddenly hit within a matter of hours one day drove me to point of insanity. i stopped taking it.

I get sleepy for a few days if I forget a dose of an atypical, so I take Invega Sustenna once a month injections now. I don't forget a dose. =)

Your husband may want to make sure he's taking it at precisely the same time of day each day, as this establishes a steady state of the drug in the bloodstream after a few days. After a steady state has been achieved, the side effects are fewer, especially with antipsychotics.

Yup it tastes disgusting.

I took it to help with spasms. Knocked me out for about eight hours. That was during the day. Maybe I should take it at night. I will discuss it with my P'doc.
