What is the general range for a therapeutic dose of Lexapro? I'm taking 20mg 1x a day.

Basic range is 20 mg to 60 mg per day....... most people start at and cont' to take the 20 mg per day.

Rhapsody, I think you're thinking of Celexa. Lexapro has a max dose of 20 mg a day, Celexa is 60 mg a day.

 Yeah YOU are probably right (me got confused).... Celexa can range from 20 to 60 mg per day.... While Lexapro (the sister of Celexa) ranges from 10 to 20 mg per day - with 30 mg per day given in some cases. Thanks....... LoVe, Rhapsody -

Interesting that the efficacy studies failed to show any superiority of 20 mg over 10 mg dosing. Because of reduced clearance capacity, anyone over 65 years of age should be restricted to no more than 10 mg/day. Phase 2 trials were conducted at 30 mg, but no efficacy trials were conducted using that dose.

I'm on 40 mg. per day with no side effects.

I've been on 10mg once a day for several months. Worked very well for me and I've had almost no side effects.
Only side effect that I've noticed is increase in sweating. I'm a drown cat in exercise class. But not sure if the side effect is from the Lexapro or the Elavil I take for nerve pain. Or a combo of the two. On a number of other meds for another illness. Monty

I just wanted to add that it is not uncommon for doctors to prescribe Lexapro at 40mg/day. However, the usual dosing range is 10-20mg.
