I was off meds for a long time. Anyway im back on them and got paroxetine but was so tired all the time. Anyway now im on prozac and i have began to waken up, i think, but im struggling with some feelings around self injury. Is this a side effect. I also seem to be getting quite distressed at times and Im wondering if I should go back on the other stuff as at least on the other pills I was only tired. I was sleeping my life away on them though.

Im just not sure what to do.

I actually had great luck with Paxil (Paroxetine) and had bad experiences with prozac. With the Paxil it comes in a variety of different dossage levels so my physician was able to taylor it to me and when needing a higher dosage the paxil was able to be matched with another medication that had very few if any side effects for me.

when I was on prozac it came in only two different dosage levels and both caused me to become suicidal and caused me to lose more ground with my DID disorder.

The bottom line though with any medications is that the prescribing doctor follows up with the person with med checks so that the person always has the correct dosage and medication for that person.

Being put on a new medication (one that you have never been on) you should be having med checks every 3-6 months. at those appointments let your prescribing doctor know of any side effects or feelings you are having while on the medication including physical problems like being dizzy and tired and so on. and the prescribing doctor will do the rest by making sure he prescribes the right medication and dosage for you.

take care.

Calling your doctor with the concerns and information is always a good decision. You didn't mention how long you've been trying this one, but if you are "feeling" differently and it isn't all "better"... it sounds like long enough to call the doc, imo. I can have a reaction in a few hour's time.

Thanks myself.

I does feel like ive became a bit Suicidal (if you can be a bit that way) Its just that every day i seem to be thinking of it when I hadnt for ever such a long time. And yes I have lost quite a bit of ground in terms of the work im doing in T. Its a general feeling of all round distress and im getting very mixed up again and feeling like i cant keep control.

Im on a very low dosage - 20mg a day, or at least i think thats a low dosage Im not very clued up on meds and stuff.

I hope no one has got a fright reading this, im not going to act on my feelings its just that Im saying they are there and i wasnt sure what was happening.

Sky, you ask how long ive been on the prozac - it will be 3 weeks this wednesday. I dont know how long it takes to start to feel effects but its just that ive been very aware of some dangerous feelings and i suppose its worrying me.

I dont want to bother the doctor but maybe i should go back. She will think im nuts! Is it OK to say to a doc that you feel like doing something awful?

Thanks for listening guys.

Go see your doctor as soon as you can. No! She won't think your nuts.

Hopefully she will give you something that suits you.

If things get desperate you could contact mental health services sooner.

Your friend. Take care.
