Sounds like the person that did that needs to be on meds, lol.

Was it just someone random, someone you know, or what? Odd that they would do that. I'm sorry it happened. Just ignore them though, what do they know. .

I agree with Emotionally Dead. The only person who's had a problem with me being on meds is my father, who doesn't "believe" any of it (because secretly he's in denial he passed the genes onto me).

Some ppl don't get why I'm on meds; they're legitimately confused. I look at it as, their brain just isn't like mine. I will probably always need some kind of assistance for my brain. <shrug>

Sorry that person was so rude to you. Sounds like they need a wake up call, fast.

It was someone I know from A.A. I got to the meeting a little early, and he and I were talking and I told him that my meds just got raised (the dosage) and he flipped his lid! The thing is, he KNOWS I need to be on meds, which is why I can't understand why he's so upset about this. He carried on about how I need to "own" my recovery, and blah, blah, blah. The thing that really gets me is that he is taking meds himself. But I guess he figures that because his meds are for "physical" reasons, so that makes it okay? And I think he figures that if you are taking them for "mental" reasons, then you are doing nothing more than "replacing the alcohol."And he really can't stand he fact that I'm seeing a psychiatrist--I mean that really pisses him off.

This person sounds like he has no idea about mental health problems. They are just as real as his physical problems, and it's not your fault your meds got raised. He has no reason to flip his lid with you.

I'd tell this dude to back up off of me and my recovery process ... He sounds like one of the many AA Nazis I've encountered along the way ... I mean it's great if they want to be this gung-ho about their own process, but they better back up off of me about mine or I'll put them in their place right quick ... !!!

I feel for you. I was in AL-Anon myself for several years, and while they obviously don't have to deal with recovery from addiction + mental illness like you and many I know have to, I understand the rigidity and unyielding that many AA people have, that chip on their back. It's very judgemental--precisely what AA says not to do--and dismissive.

I know in AA it's encouraged to let someone know when they need to stay in their sandbox....I'd be saying, "When you conquered your addiction fully and no longer need these meetings, then, please, come talk to me."

Oh man, I'm sorry you encountered that crap. I've run into to in AA. I actually had an ex sponsor tell me the reason I kept relapsing was becuase I was on meds. I fired her. I can't remember the page reference, but there's a passage in the big book, in "The Family Afterwards" that specifically says, sometimes psychiatric help is required.

I generally don't talk about being on meds at AA, precisely due to the reaction you encountered.

Wow, this guy would think i'm awful i'm on 60 mg fluoxetine, 100 mg topomax tnice a day, 2 mg
clonodine, 100 mg imitrex as needed, ambien as needed and those are just my migraine and
psychiatric ones. I take more for allergies asthma and acid reflux. I think your meds are fine. If I were you, I would stay away from habit forming narcotics. You are on an abtisepressant and a nsaid and I
dont know the other one.

Hi shortandcute!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately some people can't see beyond their own opinions and biases sometimes and think their way is the "only way". It has happened in my own family, it can happen to anyone.
