Second day on it and it's making me crazy out of it. But it's also making my depression much worse. Is this normal for first starting something. I was on celexa for a day and had a really bad reaction to it and that's all i've ever taken is this normal for seroquel? I'm thinking maybe it gets worse before it gets better?

Here's a link to askapatient.com's Seroquel reviews so you can get an idea of what others have experienced:

After being put on a med that made me sicker than a dog with one dose, my new policy is to check the reviews on this site before trying anything new.
Thanks for this!

Hmm are you only taking seroquel? And for depression, seems a bit weird to me for your dr. to jump to something as heavy as an antipsychotic like seroquel to treat depression, with only having tried celexa. I know they do sometimes use these meds for depression, but I don't think it is first line treatment, it is not an antidepressant.

I would look at the link Lucy gave you. I have taken many drugs in this class over the years for Bipolar and psychosis. Seroquel made me feel awful, agitated depression, it did not get better over time. This drug can be useful in certain cases, however there are a lot of possible side effects and links to diabetes, worth looking into.

It will make you crazy out of it because antipsychotics are major tranquilizers, that is what they used to be called. Some people adjust to this feeling and some don't.

It also seems odd that for depression you were prescribed Seroquel. Seroquel is a heavy hitter anti-psychotic. There are meds specifically designed for depression. SSRI's and SNRI's as well as Tricyclic. Paxil, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, are just a few of the many depression meds out there today. Check in on that link and talk to your doctor. Best of luck.

I wasn't given seroquel for depression I took the celexa and was up for 3 days stright having a manic episode. I was given pristiq for the day and seroquel at night. I only took the seroquel because i'm not going to lie I was terrified to take an antidepressant again. So I was hoping the seroquel would help better. I do like how it calm me but, like what was said it makes me agitated and more depressed. Maybe I should take the pristiq during the day then.

So can I ask then, do you have Bipolar? Or was the mania that was induced by celexa the first manic episode? I would also like you, not want to take an AD if it causes mania. That is exactly what happens when ever I have taken them as well.

sometimes antipsychotics can cuase depression, depends on how your body reacts to the drug, not saying this is the case but.... i switched from thorazine to prolixin before, and the prolixin made me want to kill myself. and ive never been suicidle before that. do u only feel depressed after u take the seroquil ?? seroquil is like thorazine <--- thats what im on. but i took a seroquil pill before and it does the same thing, makes you calm. if you dont want to gain weight then i wouldnt take too much of it. just try to figure out if your depression is due to the seroquil or not. prolixin is a horrible drug. ive never heard of antipsychotics making someone depressed at the beggining and then it going away. so if its making u depressed , thats not good.

Honestly I've never been to a psychiatrist in my life, so maybe that's my problem here. I keep getting prescribed medication by my doctor. Also I have depression and I do have episodes of mania before taking any drugs, so I suspect i'm bi-polar. I have an appointment so I think i'm just going to wait and get his opinion here. Thanks for all of the advice.

I don't know if your taking a low dose of quetiapine for sleep. Or if you are taking larger amounts for bi-polar or schitzo. effective disorder. Just make sure you weigh the pro's and con's when using an anti-psychotic. Atypical or not, they come with a host of side effects- weight gain, diabetes, tardive dyskinesia. Of course AP's have their place in treating psychiatric disorders.
Your pdoc should give you a thorough overview of any medication before prescribing.
