Has anybody here been on Saphris? My P doc says it might be an option if my Zyprexa is causing diabetes. I have a blood test later this week to see where my blood sugar is at. The Zyprexa works but it has caused me to gain weight. My P doc says Saphris might have less of a metabolic side effect. Does anyone have experience with is med?

Evidently not! Have you read about it on the Internet? Maybe you could get some insights there.

I was on Saphris a few months ago. Get the black cherry flavor if you can. The original flavor is much worse. The black cherry tastes like the stuff densists use to numb the mouth xD It will numb your tongue for maybe 10 minutes, don't be scared, the effect goes away. You can't eat for like....10 minutes or so after you take saphris. Also, saphris sedated me so much that I slept all day. I couldn't do ANYTHING. Then I got too depressed because of the fatigue from the saphris. Before you take saphris, be sure you do not have to drive anywhere, just in case it sedates you! Good luck! I hope it works for you

I currently take 5mg of Saphris a day. I take it at night because of the sedative effect. I have noticed an increase in weight since starting it five months ago(20 pounds). This is the only negative side effect to me; which, unfortunately causes a lowering of self-esteem. I find the benefits outweigh the negative in the case of Saphris.

Saphris was a mixed bag for me. It knocked down the mania and racing thoughts like nothing ever has... I eventually went off of it (sadly), because the tired spaciness was affecting my work. I believe I was on 10 mg.

However... I may ask for it back as a PRN- if we can get my insurance to cover it. The PRNs I have now are just not working well. It IS a really good drug.
