I've had bad sleeping problems since I was a baby. My mom told me I had my nights and days switched up, I would sleep all day and stay up all night. As I got older it got worse and I always just thought everyone had to stare at wall until they passed out. Well this past year my insomnia has really hit hard..I would stay awake, days at a time. I took over the counter meds, and nothing helped. I finally went to my doctor a few months ago for the first time about this problem and he prescribed me Trazodone.

The main reason for this thread is I was wondering if anyone else is taking Trazodone and having issues with it. Like it will knock me out but it won't keep me out. I fall asleep faster now but I wake up a lot still, constantly at night. I end up staying in bed for 12 plus hours a day and feel more exhausted than when I went to bed. I have to go back next month to get a new prescription of the meds, but should I go back sooner? I feel like these pills are hurting me more than helping me.

Trazadone gave me a morning hangover that I didn't like, so I quit taking it.

What helped the most to fall asleep and stay asleep, was Gabapentin (name brand: Neurontin).

I took Trazodone for several years but eventually it lost ALL effectiveness. It went from being 100% effective to being 0% effective.

I had no side effects at all.

I take Trazodone. It helps some, but is probably getting less effective over time. I haven't noticed any side effects, but it sounds like you should consider talking to your doctor about it.

I definitely got the hangover feeling when I first started taking it :/ I'm probably gonna call my Doc Monday and get an appointment. I'll ask him about Gabapentin and Ambien, and see what he thinks about it. Thank you guys for your responses

I just started taking it and I am getting the hangover feeling too... I also have red eyes every morning and I wake up through out the night..... Lunesta didn't keep me asleep either .. Did doc give you something else and if so, is it working?

I was on trazodone to help me sleep, but I had the same waking up problems as well. I found increasing the dose just made me groggy later in the day and of course look confused. After awhile, I was sleeping too much at the wrong time. I had to go on any medication that clears out of my system for the day. Just dry a lot of fluids if possible as a lot of these sleeping meds gives you a dry mouth.
