Just wondering if anyone's had any positive experiences with anxiety/depression meds?

I got up to about 40mg of Fluoxatine/Prozac for depression and about 60mg of Citalopram, but with both I've noticed some serious problems with anorgasmia, headaches, and sleep issues. I'm at a loss because I don't want the negative side effects of anxiety and depression, but all the little side effects of medication aren't too great either.

Anyone dealing with this or have any kind of advice?

Thanks in advance!

Buspar is a really good anti-anxiety med.
I was on Prozac and that just messed me up, I was having the same experiences you are having.

My first thought was Buspar as well. A lot of people apparently love it and don't have the common insidious side effects that SSRI's have (sexual side effects, weight gain, ahedonia, etc)

I never got a chance to take the med very far, however.

Buspar does not help with depression, though. Is the main reason you were taking Celexa/Prozac for anxiety or depression?

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that does not have sexual side effects. It acts differently than Celexa/Prozac. But it tends not to be good for anxiety. It sometimes makes people more anxious. My PNP told me once that I will not find one med that helps with everything, so sometimes you have to cut your losses and just address the most pressing thing with medication. For example, I had ADHD and anxiety and she gave me Wellbutrin, which helped with the ADHD but not the anxiety. I used non-pharm methods to deal with the anxiety. It worked out OK.

Some people take Vistaril for anxiety, or Neurontin, which I don't believe have sexual side effects. So you could try one of those plus Wellbutrin.

Definitely talk with your doc. There are different options. If it is a family doctor, they may not know what to do beyond the SSRIs like Celexa/Prozac, so you might do better with a pdoc if you don't already have one. Good luck!

For some wellbutrin treats anxiety and for myself the buspar was prescribed to me during a depression (largely because I didn't want to try another SSRI). Different meds for different people.

My advice is to try until you find something that works.

I am on clomipramine (antianxiety and antidepressant mixed) which has been very helpful in treating my anxiety which manifests in the form of OCD. I get the sense that it is a very medication tho... so it may not be for everyone.

I take very little Prozac (10 mg) and it does not give me side effects at such a low dose. For anxiety, I use cardio. No meds. Cardio is more effective than Klonopin - I tested.
