Hi,

Next time, please write in a smaller/more readable font.

To answer your question, it completely depends on the med and the person.

I have been on 3 antipsychotics: Zyprexa, Geodon and Seroquel.

Zyprexa made me gain 30lbs in about 2 months (on varying doses).

Geodon did not make me gain weight (160mg/day).

Seroquel (both XR and IR) did not make me gain weight (200mg/day and 300mg/day).

Ziprasidone - 80 mg's and no weight gain. A few years back I was on the max. dosage for a couple of years and still didn't gain weight on it.

Geodon/Ziprasidone - weight-neutral.
Risperdal - weight-neutral FOR ME.
Seroquel - weight gain.
Zyprexa - rapid weight gain.

Overall I recommend Geodon.

I have been on Geodon at 240mg for a few years and haven't gained weight. I was on Saphris for a couple of months and it made me so hungry that I went back to Geodon.

I've only been on Seroquel/quetiapine and Risperdal/risperidone.
I gained weight on both, but after a while the weight gain subsided and I was able to keep a normal weight. I was on 300mg of Seroquel and I'm currently on 4mg of Risperidone.

I hear that Abilify helps and doesn't have weight gain as a huge side effect for some people, but everyone reacts to psych meds differently.

When I did research into APs, in early 2010, Geodon was the best. Since then, perhaps Abilify has outsmarted Geodon - not sure.

I'm on Risperidone 4 mg and haven't gained any weight on it. Been on it for about 5-6 years.

A few weeks I put of a link for an article about weight-gain issues and AP's. Statistically, abilify is the best weightwise.

This is a different article, but it has a good table in it:

Thanks - I do not have time to read the whole article now but I looked at the table and Geodon and Abilify are both OK.

Abilify 5mg for 1 year

-At first this medication had no impact on my weight, then I gained 20lbs in about 3 months. I was entering college when I gained this weight, so my health habits did decline a bit. Once I went off this medication I dropped the weight in about 3 months. Antipsychotics vary person to person in regards for weight gain. One thing I have noticed however is that they make you more sensitive to lifestyle changes. My nutrition and general health habits haven't changed since I dropped the medication at all, and I still lost the weight. If you maintain regular exercise (at least 3 hours strenuous exercise a week), much of this weight gain can be avoided.

Didn't gain much weight on Seroquel IR, haven't been on XR long enough to report any changes.
